Type: SAR

Text:  On 7/20/2010, at 0009 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a
report from the plant manager of Silver Bay Seafood that nine employees
had not returned from a hike up Sunnahae Mountain in Craig.  A large
group of hikers had started up the Sunnahae trail, but the group split
at approximately 2000. One group headed back down the mountain and the
second group headed towards the helicopter landing pad at the top of the
mountain. The second group consisted of nine hikers have been identified
as Robert Mensch from Ghana, Rustum Sharpov, 20 yoa from Russia, Mykailo
Kustuzov,21 yoa, Zadym Markov,19 yoa, Andrii Smoliazov, 20 yoa, Mykola
Butov, 20 yoa, Artur Mylmek, 20 yoa, all from the Ukraine and Azamat
Aipov,23 yoa, from Kazakhstan and Milosz Szezpanak, 20 yoa, from Poland.
This second group of hikers decided to stay on the mountain due to the
failing light and wait until morning.   At 0726 hours all hikers were
located and brought safely down the mountain with no injuries to report.

Text: On 7-19-10 at 2244 hours AST in Palmer arrested Casey Kelly, age

Text: On 07/19/2010 at approximately 2200 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to Meadow Creek at Beaver Lake Road to transport Jacob L.
Crombie, age 19, of Wasilla, after he was arrested for a warrant by
Alaska Wildlife Troopers. Crombie had an arrest warrant for failure to
appear for arraignment on the original charge of Misconduct Involving
Controlled Substance in the Sixth Degree. Crombie was arrested and
remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he was held on a bail of
$300.00 cash.

Text:  On 07/19/2010, at approximately 1233 hours, Alaska State Troopers
conducted a traffic stop on a 1987 red Ford F250, near the intersection
of the Parks Highway and Buttercup Drive, near Wasilla.  Investigation
revealed James C. Wheat, age 65, of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle
with a revoked driver’s license. Wheat was arrested at the scene for
Driving While License Revoked.  Wheat was transported and remanded to
the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $1,000.00 bail.  The vehicle was
impounded to JFK Towing & Recovery.

Text: On 07/20/10 at approximately 0250 hours, Alaska State Troopers
conducted a traffic stop on a black 2001 Mercedes SUV, at the
intersection of Wasilla Fishhook Rd and Creste Foris St in Wasilla, for
a traffic violation. Investigation revealed that Jason Hundley age 22,
of Wasilla, was driving with a suspended license and under the influence
of alcohol.  Hundley was arrested for DUI, DWLS and remanded to the
Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.  Bail was set $500.00.  The vehicle was towed
by JFK Towing.

Type: Death Investigation

Text:  On 7/20/10, at approximately 1540 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of an expected home death at an address on Bodenburg
Loop in Palmer.  Investigation revealed that Elsa Akers, age 69 of
Palmer, passed away due to natural causes. Comfort One paperwork was on
file and no foul play is suspected.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office
was notified and released the body to the family.  Next of kin was
present at the time of death.  Alaskan Heritage Funeral Home responded
to provide final services for Akers.

Type: Aircraft Collision
Text: On 07/20/10 at approximately 1453 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of an airplane crash near Palmer Airport.
Investigation revealed that John Osborne, age 57 of Arizona, had just
taken off from Palmer Airport heading south. Osborne was flying a Piper
Cub Special with his instructor, Brett Crowley age 37 of Palmer. Osborne
was flying at an altitude of approximately 500 feet just after take off
when his aircraft experienced engine failure. Osborne was able to
navigate the aircraft into a nearby field landing with moderate damage
to the Piper Cub Special. No injuries were reported and the FAA was
notified.

Port Heiden for a reported suicide. Investigation revealed that

Type: Burglary 1st, Criminal Trespass 1st, Indecent exposure
Text: On 7/19/10, at approximately 0856 hours, AST Fairbanks received a
report from a 35 year-old female, that an unknown male entered her
residence near McGrath Rd, in Fairbanks and exposed himself.  Subsequent
investigation revealed that Gregory Gioconda-age 41 of Fairbanks,
approached the residence stating he was a plumber who had received a
call for service. When the female resident declined making the call for
service he requested the use of her bathroom and phone to gain entrance.
Once inside the residence, Gioconda exposed his genitals to the
homeowner and fled once confronted.  Gioconda was arrested and
transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center for remand pending
arraignment.  Gioconda is charged with one count of Burglary in the
First Degree, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, and Indecent
Exposure in the Second Degree.

Text: On 07-19-10 at 1920 hrs. Alaska State Troopers contacted Virginia
Monroe (51 y/o from Fairbanks) for a driving violation.  Investigation
showed that Monroe’s drivers license was revoked and that, she was
required to have an Interlock device in her vehicle.  The vehicle was
not equipped with the IID.  Monroe was arrested of Driving with a
Revoked License and Violation of Restricted Licensed.  She was remanded
to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on $2000 bond.

Text: On 07-20-2010 at 1044 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded

to a three car collision at the intersection of Little Dome Ct and Sheep
Creek Rd in Fairbanks. Investigation revealed that Ryan Hoppes, age 30
of Fairbanks was driving a Toyota FJC south on Sheep Creek Rd when he
slowed to make a right turn onto Little Dome Ct to assist Jeffrey
Gilbert, age 48, of Fairbanks who was driving a 1969 Volkswagon Van that
caught fire.  Tyler Wattum, age 16, of Fairbanks was driving south on
Sheep Creek Rd in a 1981 Ford F-150 and collided with Ryan Hoppes’
Toyota FJC, which was then propelled into Jeffrey Gilberts Volkswagon
Van.  No injuries were reported and alcohol did not appear to be a
factor.  The vehicles sustained minor damage.

vessel to be licensed with CFEC.  Thorstensen was cited with bail set at

Court, to one count each of Aiding a Client in a Violation and Fishing
More Lines than Paying Clients. McGraw was fined $3000 with $1500
suspended on count one, he was fined $1000 with $1000 suspended on count
two.  McGraw is placed on probation for two years, not to commit any
wildlife offenses.

between two commercial setnetters in Main Bay.  Investigation revealed

Type: Commercial Fish Closed Waters
Text:  On 7-16-10, Timothy Barclay 50 YOA of Valdez, was cited by the
Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Valdez Post.  Barclay was issued a citation
for commercial fishing in the closed waters near the Solomon Gulch
Hatchery after making a seine set in the dense fog.  The area was closed
almost a mile off the beach, and Barclay set right off the beach.

permit holder on the F/V Rhema.  Jensen was issued a second citation for
commercial fishing in the closed waters of Marsha Bay on 7-11-10, Knight
Island, after Valdez Troopers received a complaint and an investigation
was conducted.  Arraignments for Jensen will be held in Valdez and
Cordova.

Type: Meth Lab Investigation

Text: On 7-19-10, at about 1710 hours, investigators with the Mat-Su
Narcotics Unit executed a Search Warrant on a vehicle and tote that were
seized from Steven W. Kitterman, age 41, of Oklahoma, on 7-18-10.
Kitterman was initially contacted and arrested for warrants on 7-18-10,
at about 2025 hours, after AST Palmer Patrol conducted a traffic stop on
a vehicle Kitterman was occupying near Mile 15 of the Old Glenn Highway,
in the Butte, near Palmer.
As a result of the Search Warrant service on Kitterman’s vehicle and
tote, a large amount of meth lab related chemicals and waste were
seized, which were related to the ‘One Pot’ method of manufacturing
methamphetamine. Additionally, a loaded concealable firearm was located
in the tote where some of the meth lab items were found.
Subsequently, Kitterman was charged with three counts of MICS 2nd, MIW
2nd, Purchase or Receipt of Certain Restricted Listed Chemicals and two
counts of MICS 4th. Kitterman is being held at Mat-Su Pretrial, in

Type: Driving Under the Influence / Misconduct Involving a Controlled
Substance in the Sixth Degree

Text: On July 17, 2010 at approximately 2224 hours, AST Bureau of
Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team stopped a purple 1995 Ford Ranger
for a moving traffic violation at approximately mile 70 of the Sterling
Highway. Investigation revealed the driver, Monica L. Friemering, age
49, of Anchorage, was operating the vehicle while under the influence of
alcohol. Subsequent investigation revealed the passenger, Catherine L.
Knight, age 56, of Sterling, was in possession of a small amount of
marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia. Friemering was subsequently
arrested for Driving Under the Influence and remanded into custody at
Wildwood Pre – Trial without bail. Knight was issued a misdemeanor
citation for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Sixth
Degree with a court date to appear in the Kenai District Court. The
vehicle was released to a licensed and sober driver.

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision – Damage

Text: On July 19, 2010 at approximately 1357 hours, AST Bureau of
Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team responded to a report of a motor
vehicle collision at approximately .5 mile Funny River Road.
Investigation revealed Kiefer T. Riss, age 19, of Soldotna, was
attempting to turn left onto Funny River Road in a 2000 Honda passenger
vehicle from a driveway on the northbound side of the roadway and
collided with a boat trailer loaded with a 2006 Willie Predator, which
was being towed by a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Mark D. Wackler,
age 31, of Soldotna. The Chevrolet was traveling northbound on Funny
River Road at the time of the collision. The collision caused the axle
on the trailer to separate from the frame of the trailer. The Chevrolet
continued northbound approximately 150 feet before the trailer and boat
traveled off of the shoulder of the northbound lane. The Chevrolet was
not observed to be damaged. The trailer was totaled. The estimated
damage to the boat was $500.00. The boat was transported to a different
trailer and removed from the scene. The estimated damage to the Honda
was $3000.00. The Honda was driven away from the scene. All parties were
wearing their seatbelts and reported no injuries.
