CSPD Sobriety Checkpoint on July 16, 2010
Thursday, July 15, 2010 11:00 AM [RELEASE AT WILL]:
In an effort to better protect our community from impaired drivers, the Colorado Springs Police Department will be coordinating a multi-jurisdictional sobriety checkpoint for the evening of July 16, 2010.
The coordination and implementation of this checkpoint is being conducted in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation?s (CDOT) Checkpoint Colorado Campaign.
Checkpoint Colorado Campaign is commonly referred to as 100 Days of Heat, an educational program that is designed to decrease the number of intoxicated drivers on Colorado roadways, particularly during the summer holiday season.
All drivers contacted as a result of this sobriety checkpoint will be stopped briefly in an effort to determine if they are operating their vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. If no impairment is found they will be quickly on their way.
The Colorado Springs Police Department will be assisted in this checkpoint operation by Troopers from the Colorado State Patrol, as well as volunteer personnel.
An operational briefing will be conducted at the Sand Creek Division of the Colorado Springs Police Department, 4125 Center Park Drive, at 10:00 PM on July 16, 2010.
It will be open to the media in order to provide widespread information reference the checkpoint operation, specifically the educational message that sobriety checkpoints are designed to influence.
