Sobriety Checkpoint Planned for Memorial Day Weekend
The Las Cruces Police Department has scheduled at least one sobriety checkpoint within city limits during the Memorial Day weekend of May 28-31, 2010.
LCPD checkpoints are part of the department’s efforts to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated. The enforcement activities also may include saturation, underage and party patrols.
The Las Cruces Police Department encourages those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to arrange ahead of time and use a designated driver – someone who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages – for their transportation needs.
Residents of Dona Ana County are reminded that they can take advantage of Project HOME, an initiative of the local DWI Program. For a minimal fee, Project HOME (Helping Others Make it home Every time) offers a safe ride home to anyone who may have consumed too much alcohol.
Project HOME is available Fridays, Saturdays and holidays between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. For information call (575) 524-TAXI (8294).
