Police plan increased DUI enforcement during Memorial Day weekend
Boulder Police are planning increased enforcement during the Memorial Day weekend in an attempt to deter drunken driving during this holiday. A DUI checkpoint will occur on Friday, May 28, starting at about 10 p.m. on Broadway, just north of Baseline Road. Multiple police officers will be contacting vehicles in this area. There will also be additional mobile DUI enforcement patrols on Friday, May 28, and Saturday, May 29, starting at about 9 p.m. each evening.
The extra staffing for the DUI checkpoint and for the increased DUI enforcement has been made possible as a result of $19,630 in Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) funds provided by the state of Colorado. The Boulder Police Department is providing $19,630 in matching funds and resources as a part of this DUI enforcement effort. These funds will be used for additional DUI Checkpoints during the summer of 2010. The state of Colorado also provided funding for four additional DUI overtime positions during the Memorial Day period.
In addition to the funds from the state of Colorado, the Boulder Police Department contributes $27,646 in DUI enforcement funds.
