On March 3, 2010, a twelve-year-old female victim disclosed that when she was seven years old, her music teacher sexually molested her. The victim stated this occurred on two separate occasions while she was a student at Brinton Elementary School, 11455 E. Sunland in Mesa. The victim stated that the first incident occurred when she was in second grade and the second incident occurred when she was in third grade. Both incidents occurred in the school band room during an after school program.
The victim stated the suspect would ask her to help him clean the band room. Once they were in the band room, the suspect removed the victim’s clothing and molested her. These incidents occurred between January 2005 and November 2005. The victim identified the suspect as Michael Allen LaMonica (49).
On March 10, 2010, Mesa Police Department detectives arrested Mr. LaMonica and booked him on two counts of child molestation. Mr. LaMonica has been teaching music at Brinton Elementary School for nine years.
