City of Norman, Oklahoma – DUI Enforcement Efforts to Continue in 2010

The holiday season has passed and fortunately, the City of Norman did not experience any alcohol related fatality accidents during the 2009 holiday season. We all would like for that trend to continue throughout 2010, so the Norman Police Department will be conducting several more sobriety checkpoints this year – beginning this weekend.
The goal is to have a highly visible program that will discourage people who have been drinking from getting behind the wheel, and to target and address those who do make the poor decision to drive intoxicated. No one wants to live through the tragedy of losing a loved one to a drinking and driving incident.
Driving intoxicated is just not worth the risk. Not only do violators risk killing themselves or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for DUI can be significant. Violators often face jail time and heavy fines, the loss of their driver’s license, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, time away from work, and dozens of other expenses.
The Norman Police Department encourages citizens to do the right thing and find a safe ride home if they have been drinking. There will be a large number of officers on the street dedicated to reminding those that don’t.
