Convicted felon Antwan J. Tyson today admitted his responsibility for at least three armed robberies of chicken restaurants in the North, East and Hermitage sections of Nashville since December 5th. Detectives believe it likely he committed several other similar hold-ups.
Acting on a tip developed by Hermitage Precinct detectives, North Precinct Investigations Lieutenant Kenny Dyer spotted a green Ford Explorer believed to have been involved in the robberies in an alley behind 1720 25th Avenue North. The license plate on the Explorer was registered to another vehicle. Dyer watched as Tyson got into the vehicle and drove away. Dyer attempted to stop Tyson, who led police on a several minute pursuit that ended at 18th Avenue North & Underwood Street. A semi-automatic pistol believed to have been used in the robberies was recovered from the Explorer.
Tyson, 25, admits to robbing Church’s Chicken, 3914 Gallatin Pike, on December 5th; Mrs. Winner’s Chicken, 2721 Clarksville Pike, on January 1st, and Mrs. Winner’s Chicken, 2629 Lebanon Pike, on January 3rd. He is also charged with felony evading arrest and possession of a gun by a convicted felon (Tyson was convicted of felony reckless endangerment, felony vandalism, and felony cocaine possession in 2007). He is being held in the Metro Jail in lieu of $190,000 bond.
j*Tyson’s photograph is not being released at this time so as not to jeopardize pending photo line-ups.
