SAVANNAH, GA (January 5, 2010): Savannah-Chatham Metro Police (SCMPD) is investigating their first homicide of the year.

Today at approximately 5:00 p.m. police responded to a call of a cutting in the 10 Block of Tuten Ave. Officers arriving on scene found Jeffrey MACK, 45, suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to Memorial Medical Center with life threatening injuries where he was later pronounced dead.

Police quickly surrounded the area, detectives responded and a number of witnesses advised them that following an altercation MACK was stabbed by Claude YOUMANS who then fled the area on foot.

Last night just after 2:00 a.m. Detectives located YOUMANS thanks to several tips that came in and he was taken into custody without further incident. YOUMANS was transported to CCDC and is expected to be arraigned today. Thank you to everyone who helped us get the word out, that led to the apprehension of this suspect.
