Sunday, December 27, 2009 5:45AM RELEASE AT WILL]:
At 1:31AM today, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a man with a gun outside of the 13 Pure Nightclub located at 217 E. Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs.
Upon arrival there, officers observed a male with a handgun in the alley west of the business, and a large number of persons engaged in a disturbance. Several persons were observed by officers with handguns.
Shots were fired by several persons including one of the responding officers, and the male in the alley was struck by gunfire. That male was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The identity of the involved male is being withheld at this time. In accordance with Colorado Springs Police Department policy, the name of the involved officer is also being withheld, and the officer has been placed on routine administrative leave which is a common practice when CSPD members are involved in deadly force situations.
The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Fourth Judicial District Attorney?s Office in conjunction with the CSPD Violent Crimes/Homicide Unit.
At the time of this release, no charges have been filed. Because this is an on-going investigation, no further information about the inquiry will be released at this time.
