Text: On 12/18/09 at 2123 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a
traffic stop on a 1988 Chevy Pickup for an equipment violation on North
Tongass Highway near Don King Road. The driver was identified as James
Gillen, age 26 of Ketchikan. A check in APSIN revealed Gillen’s driver’s
license was suspended. Gillen was summonsed for DWSOL.

Type: Warrant Arrest
Text: On 12/20/2009, at approx. 1958 hours, Alaska State Troopers
contacted 24 yoa, Brandon B. Gavac at a residence off of Sandvik Dr.,
Wasilla. Investigation revealed Brandon Gavac of Wasilla had an
outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on
original charge of DWLS/No MV LIAB INS. Brandon was arrested and
transported to MSPT. Bail was set at $250.

Location: Palmer

Case number: 09-112482

Type: MVC/Wildlife/Injury

Text: On 12/20/2009 at approximately 1949 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a reported vehicle vs. moose collision located near mile
three on the Knik River Road, Palmer. The driver of the vehicle was
identified as Heather K. Craig, age 19, of Palmer. Investigation
revealed Craig was heading north on the Knik River Road when a moose
stepped onto the road in front of her vehicle. Craig’s vehicle then
struck the moose. Craig reported wearing her seatbelt and was
transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
There were four other juvenile passengers in the vehicle at the time of
the collision and they reported no injuries. All occupants reported
wearing their seatbelts. The vehicle was totaled and was towed from the
scene.

Type: Hit and Run

Text: On 12/20/2009 at approximately 1730 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a reported Hit and Run that took place in a parking lot
located 1.5 miles from the Point Mackenzie Store. Kim M. Silsbee, age
45, of Anchorage, reported that she had parked her gray 2009 Ford
pick-up truck in the parking lot during the morning hours on 12/19/2009.
Silsbee returned to her vehicle on 12/20/2009 and found that her vehicle
had been struck by another vehicle and damaged. Damage to her vehicle
was estimated at $8,000 dollars. Investigation is continuing. Anyone
with information about the crime is encouraged to contact the Alaska
State Troopers at 373-8300 or the Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Type: Driving While License Revoked

Text: On 12/18/09, at about 1500 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted
Ryan Lewis age 20 of Anchorage after he failed to stop for a motor
vehicle weigh station. Investigation revealed Lewis was driving with a
revoked operator’s license. Lewis was summonsed to court for driving
while revoked and the commercial vehicle he was driving was placed out
of service.

Type: DUI
Text: On 12-21-2009, at 0517 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to
Mile 2 of the Old Glenn Highway following the report of two males in an
altercation outside of a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the
road. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Michael K.
Nelson, age 30, of Anchorage was found to be operating the vehicle while
under the influence of alcohol. Investigation also revealed that Nelson
was involved in the altercation that was reported earlier. Nelson was
arrested for DUI, transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility. Bail was set at $500.00.

Type: DWLR, Probation Violation
Text: On 12-05-2009, at 0154 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a
vehicle on Bogard Road near Catalina Street, Wasilla for a moving
violation. The driver of the vehicle, Harley R. Debeaulieau, age 26, of
Wasilla was found to be operating the vehicle while his license was
revoked for a prior DUI. Investigation also revealed that Debeaulieau
was on probation for Felony DUI and violated the conditions of his
probation. Debeaulieau was arrested for DWLR and Probation Violation.
Debeaulieau was transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility and held with out bail.

Location: Wasilla
Case number: 09-112553
Type: Fatal Fire Investigation
Text: On 12-21-09 at approximately 0422 hours Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a residential fire with entrapment near mile 12 of
Knik Goose Bay Road in Wasilla. State Troopers as well as Central
Mat-Su Fire responded to the scene. The fire department was able to
extinguish the flames but not before the residence was considered a
total loss. Investigation revealed that Bruce E. Braden, age 54 from
Wasilla, was not able to escape the burning residence. The State
Medical Examiners Office was notified and responded to the scene in
order to secure the remains for positive identification. Next of kin,
Katharine M. Braden age 60 from Wasilla, was present on scene.
Investigation into the source of the fire is being continued by AST and
investigations with Central Mat-Su Fire. Foul play is not suspected at
this time.

Text: On 12/18/2009, at approximately 1110 hours, the Alaska State
Troopers in Bethel received a report regarding the possible sexual abuse
of a minor in Kipnuk. The investigation is currently on going. Alcohol
is reported to be a factor in the reported incident.

Type: Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief

Text: On December 21, 2009 at 9:45am, Bethel Alaska State Troopers
received information that the Goodnews Bay Clinic was burglarized.
Information indicates that the burglary occurred on the 19th of
December. Investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time of
alcohol is a factor.

Text: On December 21, 2009, a check of the State of Alaska Sex Offender
Registry revealed that 27 year old Michael Andrew of Kongiganak failed
to register as a sex offender. AST is requesting that a summons for
Andrew be issued.

Type: MISC 4th(2 counts), Criminal Mischief

Text: On 12/17/09, the Unalakleet VPSO McKEnzie responded to a report
that Byron Kotongan, 23 of Unalakleet, was found passed out inside the
Native Village of Unalakleet office. Investigation revealed that
Kotongan had damaged a door in the office. Inside his jacket was a bag
of marijuana packaged for individual sale. Kotongan was charged with 2
counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance Fourth Degree and
Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, he was arraigned at the
Unalakleet Court and then transported to Nome and lodged at AMCC on
$2000 bail.

Type: Death Investigation
Text: On 12-20-09, at about 0800 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Bethel
responded to the Village of Chevak for the report of a six month year
old baby that had passed away during the night. At this time the case
is under investigation. No foul play is suspected and alcohol does not
appear to be a factor.

Text: On 12-21-09 at 0942 hours, it was reported to the Alaska State
Troopers, Aniak Post that during the weekend someone had entered the
Kalskag city office and took the money box. Unknown amount of money at
this time. Anyone with information about this theft should contact the
Aniak Post of the Alaska State Troopers.

report of an assault. Investigation revealed that Travis Peterson, age

Text: On 12-20-09, at about 0720 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Bethel
were notified of two subjects who were stranded on the Gweek River near
Akiachak. The two subjects were located by a family member and search
and rescue from the village of Akiachak. The two were returned safely
to Bethel and Akiachak.

started a search and rescue for a male subject who was stranded and in
distress on the lower straight slough about a mile from Bethel. With

and returned safely to Bethel. Alcohol was not involved.

started a search and rescue for two male subjects who were reported to
have had their snow-machine go through the Tagyarak River near
Tuntutuliak. Both subjects were located by Tuntutuliak Search and
Rescue and transported to Tuntutuliak where they were reported in good
condition

Type: DUI/Unlawful use of a Driver’s License

Text: On 12/20/09 at approximately 2200 hours Troopers investigated the
report of a vehicle in the ditch on Ballaine Rd. near the intersection
of Fairway Dr. Investigation revealed the driver, Briana Harvie, 29,
of Fairbanks to be driving while intoxicated. Investigation also
revealed the driver’s license had been unlawfully altered. The
driver was arrested for Driving under the influence and Unlawful
use of a driver’s license.

Type: Lost dog

Text: On 12/21/2009 at 1305 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a
call from Frank Bressler reporting that while he was inside Justa Store
Tesoro near Chena Ridge & Chena Pump, his dog was picked by an unknown
citizen because his dog was not on a lease and was running around the
parking lot unsecured to his ATV. Bressler and Alaska State Troopers
are asking who ever had picked up the dog that was running around the
Justa Store parking lot, if they contact either Bressler at 590-0230 or
AST 451-5100 to return the dog. The dog is described as a small mixed
breed pup, light honey brown color, short hair, about 18 inches long,
long ears, 48 pounds, 9-10 months old, named Jester. Jester’s has a bad
permanent right front leg. No pic, plate or video available.

Type: Vehicle Theft

Text: On 12-21-09, at 1253 hours, Christopher Nickel of North Pole,
Alaska reported unknown subjects came onto his property on Route 66 and
stole his blue, 2007 Yamaha Viking Pro snow machine. Nickel described
the snow machine as being in good condition and says there was a wooden
box attached to the cargo rack. Nickel estimated the value of the snow
machine was about $7000.00.

Text: On 12/20/2009, at about 1910 hours, AST received a report from
Lisa Rutherford that her father, Wilburn Rutherford, 73 of Tok, was
found deceased in his home. Wilburn Rutherford had multiple
pre-existing medical conditions. No suspicious circumstances were
found.

Text: On 12/21/09, at 1312 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a
report of a single commercial vehicle crash at approximately 15 mile
Steese Highway. Daniel Jones, age 28 of North Pole was driving a 2006
Freightliner tractor from Alaska West Express, northbound on the Steese
Highway. Jones stated a moose walked into his lane of travel and he
swerved to avoid the animal. Jones reported no injuries. The
Freightliner tractor was totaled and the trailer had major damage.

Text: On 12/22/09, at 1442 hrs, Alaska State Troopers responded to
Tungsten Trail for a motor vehicle collision with damage only.
Investigation found that Sean Sullivan, 19 of Fairbanks, was traveling
south on Tungsten Trail when he lost control of his 1995 Ford Explorer
and slid into the path of a 2006 Honda CRV driven by Lenore Heppler, 50
of Fairbanks, traveling north on Tungsten Trail. No one was injured.
All occupants were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicle sustained
damage requiring a tow truck.

Type: Driving in Violation of Instructional Permit

Text: On 12-20-2009 at approximately 0042 hours, Soldotna AST stopped a
1993 Ford Escort for passing in a no passing zone near mile 26 of the
Kenai Spur Highway. Investigation revealed the driver, Justen Galley,
age 18, of Nikiski was driving the vehicle in violation of his
instructional permit. Galley was issued a misdemeanor citation to appear
in the Kenai District Court. Galley was also issued a citation for
passing in a no passing zone.

Text: On 12-20-2009 at approximately 0042 hours, Soldotna AST contacted
Justen Galley, age 18, of Nikiski, after the vehicle he was driving was
stopped for a moving violation. Investigation revealed Galley had an
outstanding warrant for his arrest issued out of the Kenai Court for
theft in the fourth degree. Galley was arrested and remanded into
custody at WWPT without bail.

Type: MICS 6th degree

Text: On 12-19-09 at approximately 0320 hours, Soldotna AST stopped a
2007 Dodge car for failing to stop for a stop sign in Nikiski. The
driver and sole occupant was contacted and identified as Patrick Focose,
age 23, of Kenai. Investigation revealed Focose was in possession of
approximately 6 grams of marijuana. Focose was issued a misdemeanor
citation with a court date to appear in Kenai District Court and release
at the scene.

Text: On 12-19-09 at 0748 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop on a 1993
Ford Bronco for an equipment violation at Forest Ln. and Fox Trail Rd.
Investigation showed the driver Michelle Johnson, age 47, of Sterling
was impaired by alcohol and had a revoked driver’s license due to a
prior felony DUI. Fulton was arrested and remanded to WPT for Felony
DUI, Felony refusal and DWLR with no bail.

Type: Take Over Limit of Deer x2, Fail to Validate Harvest Tickets x2

Text: On 12/15/09 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Eisen Aki, 48,
and Pedro Reyes, 35, both of Kodiak, during a hunting compliance check
at the American River. Aki was issued 2 citations for Failure to
Validate Harvest Tickets when taking two black tail deer. Reyes was
charged with two counts of Taking over Limit of Deer and was issued a
summons to appear in Kodiak district court. Both of Reyes’ deer were
seized and donated to a local charity.
