Yuma County, Arizona – County Officials Launch New Website To Track Sex Offenders In Yuma

YUMA, ARIZONA, DECEMBER 8, 2009: On December 8, 2009 the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office announces online sex offender search capability. OffenderWatch will enable citizens to search for the presence of registered Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders in proximity to any address in Yuma County, such as homes, places of work, and schools. The system will display a map and list offenders that live up to two miles of the specified address. People may also sign up for email alerts that will notify them should an offender move within their neighborhood. Citizens may access the registry on the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office web site at http://www.yumacountysheriff.org
“Every community has the right to have access to every possible tool to identify threats to their children. This system allows concerned citizens to easily identify possible threats from registered sex offenders in areas they designate. If a child goes missing, this system also provides a quick resource for law enforcement to identify any possible threats who may live or work in the area” said Investigator Christopher Ashby with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
Developed by Watch Systems, LLC in Louisiana, the OffenderWatch software is being used by 600 agencies, with eleven state-wide implementations. In addition to Yuma County, both Maricopa and La Paz Counties have started using OffenderWatch.
