Sheriff’s detectives say a woman shot a man who tried to rob her husband at their home in southeast Shelby County earlier this week.
Just after 10:30 p.m. on December 7, two men approached Mike Murik as he got out his vehicle in the 4300 block of Whispering Bend Drive.
As Murik scuffled with the attackers, one of them, Richard Crawford, 36, of Memphis, shot Murik in the leg. His wife, Maria Lopez-Guerrero, heard the commotion, retrieved a pistol and then fired at the suspects.
About thirty minutes after the robbery attempt, Crawford checked himself into Delta Medical Center on Getwell Road. He had a gunshot wound to the back. Hospital staff notified Sheriff’s detectives who later charged Crawford with Attempted First Degree Murder and Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery.
Detectives say their investigation continues and Crawford could face additional charges. Deputies are still searching for the other suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sheriff’s detectives at (901) 545-5600 or Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274). Richard Crawford’s photo is being sent with this release in a separate file.
