Poway, California – Three Arrested at DUI Checkpoint

On the night of 11/27/09, deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department – Poway Station conducted a DUI Sobriety and Driver Safety checkpoint in the 12300 block of Poway Road.
A total of 809 cars passed through the checkpoint with 31 of those vehicles directed into the secondary inspection area.
Eleven drivers were evaluated for driving while intoxicated and 20 drivers were issued citations for various violations including one driver who was issued a citation for Zero Tolerance of driving with a blood alcohol content above .01 under 21 years of age.
Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and the passenger of one vehicle was arrested for public intoxication and for possession of marijuana. One vehicle was impounded as a result of a driver’s license violation.
Sobriety and Driver Safety checkpoints will be conducted in the future in an effort educate the public to the dangers of driving while intoxicated and to get impaired drivers off of the road.
