A 13-year old Dayton-area girl died Tuesday evening when the van operated by her mother was struck by a truck while attempting to cross Highway 18 at SE Ash Street on the west end of Dayton. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into the crash that also critically injured her mother.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Brad Hessel, on November 24, 2009 at approximately 8:10 p.m. a 1995 Plymouth Voyager van driven by CONNIE MOSGROVE, age 47, from Dayton, was attempting to cross Highway 18 from the north side of SE Ash Street to the south side when it was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound 1995 Ford AeroMax truck pulling an empty car transport trailer. After impact, both vehicles came to rest on opposites sides of Highway 18.
Van passenger KALIE MOSGROVE, age 13, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CONNIE MOSGROVE was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital reportedly with critical injuries.
The truck’s driver, JOLAN MILLER, age 33, from Vancouver, Washington was not injured.
Safety restraint use information is not available at this time.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and fire personnel from McMinnville and Dayton fire departments assisted at the scene. Highway 18 was closed about six hours at the scene of the crash.
