Checkpoints Planned During Holiday Season
With the holiday season approaching we must pay even closer attention to our motoring public and our friends. The Norman Police Department with funding from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office will be stepping up enforcement on intoxicated drivers. Norman police plan on using checkpoints, saturation patrols, and educational tactics in order to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers this holiday season. This is the beginning of a larger initiative that will continue through 2010.
The deadly risks and costly consequences of driving while impaired are far too serious. Well trained officers will have zero tolerance for driving while intoxicated. This weekend will be the first of many checkpoints that will be scheduled for various locations around the City of Norman through the holiday season into 2010.
Driving with a BAC of .08 is illegal and unfortunately many individuals do not realize that it does not take much alcohol at all to impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. We continue to see far too many people suffer debilitating injuries and loss of their loved ones as a result of impaired drivers. The Norman Police Department is dedicated to arresting impaired drivers so that we can make our roads and community a safer place for all.
We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. If you are planning to drink alcohol with friends, designate a sober driver and give that person your keys. If impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit, or call a sober friend or family member for a ride. Norman Police are encouraging citizens to do the right thing this holiday season and throughout the year. There will be a large number of officers dedicated to reminding those that don’t.
