On November 13, 2009, at 12:22PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station were dispatched to the Mira Loma Target Store, located at 12471 Limonite Avenue, regarding a wanted burglary suspect.
Target personnel advised sheriff’s dispatch that the suspect, John Payne, 30 years old, of El Cajon, was inside the store. Payne was wanted for a prior burglary that he had committed at the location.
Target personnel advised deputies that Payne appeared to be in the process of committing an additional burglary of the store. He had taken a duffel bag from a store shelf and was in the process of loading it with merchandise.
Deputies arrived at the location and set up containment outside the store. When Payne emerged from the store, without paying for the duffle bag full of merchandise (DVD’s, worth approximately $1700), deputies attempted to apprehend him.
Payne ran through the shopping center parking lot, but was quickly apprehended by deputies. Payne was arrested for today’s burglary and on the previous burglary case.
Payne was also wanted for questioning in connection with similar commercial burglaries that have been committed in other Riverside County cities.
Payne was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center. The case will be sent to the Riverside County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
Anyone with any additional information about this case is asked to contact Investigator Brett Johnson at the Jurupa Valley Station @ (951) 955-2600.
