SAVANNAH, GA (November 12, 2009): Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department (SCMPD) are on the lookout for the vandals that damaged several police vehicles overnight on Chief of Love Road off of Hwy. 17 near the Ogeechee River.
Just after 6:00 a.m. this morning, Metro Patrol Officers observed three police cruisers with damage to the body and windows in an authorized parking lot. The three marked police cruisers sustained moderate damaged that required the vehicles to be removed from service for repairs prior to officer’s evening shift.
City of Savannah policy prohibits officers from taking their vehicles outside of the county without special written approval; therefore, officers who live outside the county are allowed to park their vehicles in approved locations within the county limits. Many of these officers car-pool to their respective home from these locations in their privately owned vehicles.
Detectives and the Forensics Unit are investigating the incident.
