The police department’s Fatal Crash Team is working to identify the hit and run drivers in two separate crashes, one Friday night in Donelson, and the other this morning on I-24 near Harding Place.

In today’s 1:20 a.m. crash, a 26-year-old Nashville woman was killed after she lost control of her SUV, was ejected onto the interstate, and was then run over by a blue car, believed to be a Ford Mustang. Evidence shows that the victim was traveling west on I-24 in a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer when she veered off onto the right shoulder and drove over the rumble strip. She overcorrected to the left, swerved across all lanes of traffic, and struck the median wall. The door of the SUV came open, and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected on the interstate. The Trailblazer went back to the right shoulder and came to final rest in a ditch. Officer Matthew Barnes was also traveling west on I-24, saw the SUV go out of control, and witnessed the blue car run over the victim. Barnes stopped to render aid. He reported that the blue car stopped momentarily near Harding Place, but then kept going. It is not known at present whether the victim was still alive when she was struck.

Anyone with knowledge of the blue car, believed to be a Ford Mustang, and/or its driver, is urged to contact police at 862-7738 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

In Friday’s 9:15 p.m. collision, Larry W. Stacey, 46, was struck and killed by a large dark colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban or Cadillac Escalade, as he attempted to cross Donelson Pike near the Royal Parkway intersection. According to a witness, the SUV pulled out of the nearby RaceWay gas station in a reckless manner just prior to striking Stacey. Stacey, of Donelson, was not using the crosswalk that was located about 50 yards from the point of impact.

The SUV fled north on Donelson Pike. Anyone with knowledge of it, and/or its driver, is urged to contact police at 862-7738 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
