Dover, Delaware – Four DUI Checkpoints Scheduled for Friday, November 13th and 14th 2009

14 Arrested for DUI in Week 19 of Campaign
Dover – Delaware law enforcement officer arrested 14 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week 19 of the 2009 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign (Nov. 6 & 7). This brings the total number of DUI arrests for the campaign since its July 2nd launch to 347. Agencies conducting checkpoints last weekend included the New Castle County DUI Task Force (Newport), as well as the Milford Police Department and Delaware State Police Troop 1.
In addition to the 14 DUI arrests, officers cited 3 minors for underage drinking violations, apprehended 7 wanted individuals, made 11 drug arrests, 11 felony arrests, issued 9 seat belt citations, and 56 citations for various other traffic violations.
Four sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to occur the weekend of November 13th & 14th and Seaford Police are scheduled to conduct DUI patrols as well. The checkpoints are scheduled for:
Friday Nov 13th – Newark (NcCo DUI Task Force)
Seaford (DSP Troop 5)
Saturday Nov. 14th – Clayton (Clayton PD)
Laurel (Laurel PD)
The 2009 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign launched this year on July 2nd. Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders and deterring others from drinking and driving. Also in July of this year, Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed tougher penalties for DUI offenders into law. Now offenders, particularly those with fifth and subsequent offences, face increased fines when convicted of the crime.
Additionally, Gov. Markell signed legislation that strengthened Delaware’s law related to Ignition Interlock devices for first time, High Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) offenders.
