Butte County, California – Kidnapping and Attempted Murder

On November 5, 2009 at approximately 0500 hours deputies from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to 19100 New York Flat Rd, Forbestown, California in regards to a male subject who had been beaten and tied up at the park.
Deputies arrived on scene and located a male subject, later identified as Rigoberto Lopez (age 37) of Forbestown, tied up and suffering from injuries consistent with being beaten.
Due to Lopez’s injuries, he was flown to Enloe Hospital for medical treatment. His condition is listed as critical at this time. The Butte County Sheriff’s Felony Investigations Unit responded to take over the scene. During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that Joseph Paul Baker (DOB:7- 24-84) was involved with the incident.
Detectives questioned Baker at the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and later arrested Baker on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping. Baker was booked into the Butte County Jail with a bail of $1,050,000.
