On Monday, November 2, 2009, Nathan Kuhn’s mother called Lincoln Police to report that he had been missing since the early morning hours of October 31, 2009. Detective Sergeant Munn later obtained Nathan’s cellular phone records in attempt to determine his whereabouts. Several calls had been placed to Nathan’s friend, twenty-three year old Chance Paap. Sgt. Munn tried to reach Chance Paap but was advised that Chance was out of state. On the morning on November 3, 2009, Chance returned to Lincoln and reported the death of twenty-eight year old Nathan Kuhn.

We learned that early Saturday morning, October 31, 2009, Chance and Nathan were drinking together at Chance’s residence, 1431 S. 28th Street. At one point, Chance decided to retrieve his .45 caliber handgun from his safe. Both he and Nathan handled the gun before Chance started spinning the gun on his finger. Suddenly, the gun discharged, striking Nathan Kuhn.

Following the incident, Chance panicked and fled the state. After he returned, Lincoln Police found Nathan Kuhn’s body inside a closet in Chance’s residence.

Chance was subsequently lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for Manslaughter.
