SAVANNAH, GA (October 31, 2009): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) officers, this morning, arrested ROBERT M. JOHNSON, 69, in the shooting death of his wife, MARY ELLEN JOHNSON, 66, of Ben Kell Rd. in the Coffee Bluff area.
Johnson, shot his wife of more than 40 years, following a verbal altercation at the couple’s home. Witnesses say the argument deescalated and escalated again ending with the shooting of Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was transported to Memorial Hospital where she died of her wounds
Metro Police Officers quickly apprehended Johnson after he left the residence following the shooting. Johnson was charged with murder and booked at the Chatham County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
