Major Incidents Reported for October 26, 2009

Felonious Assault:

Detectives are investigating a stabbing that occurred early Sunday morning outside Uncle Ricky’s Bar located at 1527 East Market Street. The victim, Trevonte Salaam, 21, of Andrus Street in Akron reported that he was walking in the parking lot when an unknown black male stabbed him. Salaam went to his girlfriend’s house before calling police. He was later transported to Akron City Hospital where his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The only suspect description is a black male, 21 – 30 years old, 6’01, and about 200 lbs. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Robbery:

A 57-year-old male, walking home from a friend’s house near the intersection of South Portage Path and Crosby Street, was robbed of his wallet, cell phone and movies around 7:30 last night. The victim reported that the suspects approached him from behind and started pushing him. The suspects went through the victim’s pockets taking his property before fleeing northbound on foot.

The suspects were two black males 16 – 18 years old. The first suspect was about 6’0”, 140 – 160 lbs. He was wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

The second suspect was 5’06” – 5’08”, 140 –150 lbs. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Aggravated Robbery/Felonious Assault:

A clerk at the Far-Less Food Market, located at 854 East Buchtel Avenue, was shot several times during a robbery attempt around 9:00 last night. The clerk, a 19-year-old male, reported that he was alerted by a customer about two males outside the store acting suspicious. As the clerk walked towards the front door, the suspects entered the store. The suspects pulled out handguns and demanded that the clerk put his hands in the air. When the clerk pulled out a handgun, the suspects fired several shots striking the victim before fleeing.

The clerk, Surinder Nagra, 19, of Macedonia, Ohio was transported to Akron City Hospital where his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The suspects are two black males, 16 – 20 years old. The first suspect is 5’08” – 5’09”, 140 – 160 lbs. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored or black jeans.

The second suspect is 5’09” – 5’10”, 150 – 160 lbs. He was wearing a dark colored baseball cap with a red brim, red jacket with black sleeves, blue jeans, and black shoes with white soles.

Felony reports for the weekend events

Justin M Evans, 26, 520 Crosby St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Aggravated Menacing and Weapons under Disability. The victim flagged down officers and stated tht Justin came into her house and threatened her with a gun. Justin was found at 806 Sherman St. The gun was found in the kitchen. Justin was found to be in possession of 9mm ammo.

DeMarcus L. Williams, 18, 113 Tandy Lane, Akron, Ohio was charged with Burglary and Adult Curfew. DeMarcus was found at 1137 Santee St. inside a vehicle. Officer were called to this location for an alarm call. DeMarcus was inside the vehicle with others and they were all licked to a burglary at this location.

Chris V Hackney, 21, 556 Chittenden St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Burglary and Adult Curfew. Chris was found at 1137 Santee St inside a vehicle along with others. All were licked to a burglary at this location.

Maurice M Hammonds, 18, 174 W Thornton St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Burglary and Adult Curfew. Maurice was found at 1137 Santee St inside a vehicle along with others. All were licked to a burglary at this location.

Cadarius D. Gray, 18, 1316 Andrus St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Burglary and Adult Curfew. Cadarius was found at 1137 Santee St inside a vehicle along with others. All were licked to a burglary at this location.

Michael K Darion, 22, 438 Stevenson Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Domestic Violence. Michael has a prior conviction for domestic violence from 12-15-08.

Giovanni De’Andre Travis, 18, 1031 Victory St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Criminal Gang. Engaged in a pattern of criminal conduct, committed Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary as well as Felonious Assault from 10-13-09 to 10-14-09 before being apprehended.

Lydell Antonio Miles alias Lydell A Gladney, 42, was charged with Passing Bad Checks and Theft by Deception. Lydell wrote a check to buy tires from Mike Priutt Honda. The check was written on a closed account from Chase Bank. The amount of the check was $873.00.

Brian S. Smith, 22, 986 Springdale Dr., Akron, Ohio was charged with Complicity to Commit Aggravated Murder. Brian conspired to murder the victim by planning and participating with Troy Purdie, who stabbed the victim to death in the parking lot of 986 Springdale Dr.

Troy Purdie, 19, 553 Villa Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Aggravated Murder. Troy, along with accomplices planned to murder the victim. Troy stabbed the victim to death in the parking lot of 986 Springdale Dr.

Taylor M. Marks, 20, 986 Springdale Dr., Akron, Ohio was charged with Copmplicity to Commit Aggravated Murder. Taylor conspired to murder her mother by offering money to Troy Purdie who stabbed the victim to death in the parking lot of 986 Springdale Dr.

Brandon L. Moss, 27, 1950 Adelaide Blvd, Akron, Ohio was charged with Domestic Violence, Child Endangering and Aggravated Trespass. Brandon has a prior conviction for domestic violence from 3-28-08.

Terry R. Eller, 52, 1640 Malasia Rd., Akron, Ohio was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Weapons while Intoxicated and Disorderly Conduct while Intoxicated. Officers were called to 1640 Malasia Rd for a fight with weapons. The victim stated that Terry took her gun. Terry was apprehended at 1576 Malasia with the gun, magazines, bullets and a magazine pouch.

Denny Tingler, 19, 741 Abington Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Burglary. Denny was observed entering 1155 7th Ave. Denny was then seen leaving with a plasma tv and CD player.

Gregory A. Barnhart, 39, 1006 Grant St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property Auto, Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle. Gregory was stopped at Upson St and N Arlington St driving a stolen vehicle. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle. Two unmarked bottles of prescription Trazodone were found along with two empty bottles of alcohol.

Kevin M. Foley, 19, 4003 N Hampton Rd., Cleveland, Ohio was charged with Burglary. Kevin broke out the window and entered 685 Sherman St #21 without permission.

Homicide Reported on October 25, 2009

Homicide:

Akron Police are investigating the death of Kristie E. Marks, 58, of Brentwood Boulevard in Copley, Ohio. Marks was found in the 900 block of Springdale Street around 8:00 PM Saturday night with multiple stab wounds. She was transported to Akron City Hospital where she later died. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy tomorrow.

Detectives took three individuals into custody including the victim’s daughter, Taylor M.M. Marks. Detectives discovered that Taylor wanted her mother dead and offered $5,000.00.

Detectives arrested the three involved in Kristie Marks death. Troy A. Purdie, 19, of Villa Avenue in Akron was charged with Aggravated Murder; Brian S. Smith, 20, of Springdale Street was charged with Complicity to Commit Aggravated Murder, and the victim’s daughter, Taylor M.M. Marks, 20, of Springdale Street was charged with Complicity to Commit Aggravated Murder. They were booked into the Summit County Jail.
