Operation Safe Halloween DUI Task Force
Law enforcement officers throughout San Bernardino County will conduct DUI Saturation Patrol operations during Halloween in an attempt to make it a safe holiday. The objective of this operation is to remind motorists of the risks of drinking and driving and to provide a safe atmosphere for those who are in the community enjoying the holiday. DUI Saturation patrols have been found to be a very effective method to prevent and reduce drinking and driving injury and fatal collisions resulting from this serious violent crime. The saturation operation’s focus is to seek out and arrest those drivers who have failed to listen to the warnings about drinking and driving. The Halloween DUI Saturation will aggressively seek out DUI drivers and remove them from the roadways in an attempt to prevent trick-or-treaters from being injured by them.
During Halloween, our most innocent citizens are out and about in their costumes enjoying the festivities. They are not paying attention to vehicles on the roadway and will sometimes excitedly dart into oncoming traffic. It is our responsibility to watch out for them and that cannot be done effectively if motorists are driving while intoxicated.
Operation Safe Halloween will provide increased enforcement in selected locations and enhanced public awareness and education about traffic safety and the dangers of driving while impaired. One of the goals of the program is to educate drivers in San Bernardino County about traffic safety and reduce the number of traffic collisions due to unsafe driving. Expect the possibility of having your vehicle towed and impounded and/or your driver’s license suspended if you decide to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officers will also be making sure motorists have current vehicle registration and automobile insurance.
In 2008, the 11,773 fatalities in alcohol-impaired driving crashes nationwide represent an average of one alcohol-impaired driving fatality every 44 minutes. That’s why law enforcement will be out in force looking for drunk drivers. Don’t take the risk. Remember Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.
This operation is funded through local funds and from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
