Hunter, New York – State Police Catskill DWI Arrest and Fatal Accident

The New York State Police in Catskill, N.Y. investigated a one car
fatal motor vehicle accident on County Route 16 (Platte Clove Rd) in the
Town of Hunter. At approximately 4:15AM on Sunday 10/25/09 Troopers
and rescue personnel responded to the report of a car into a telephone pole.
The investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford Focus driven by ERIC C.
POWELL, age 41, of Tannersville, NY was traveling southbound on
County Route 16 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
A passenger in POWELL’s vehicle, JOSHUA P MENZIE, age 42, of
Lake Carmel, NY was pronounced deceased at the scene. POWELL and a
second passenger EDMOND PEYROUX, age 32, of Tannersville, NY,
were both transported to Albany Medical Center and admitted with internal
injuries.
Excessive Speed and Alcohol were factors in the accident and ERIC
POWELL was arrested for DWI and other traffic violations. Additional
criminal charges are pending.
The State Police were assisted by the Greene County District Attorney
Terry Wilhelm, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, The Town of
Hunter Police Department, the Tannersville Fire Department, Tannersville
Rescue, Hunter Ambulance and the Greene County Paramedics.
