Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Shirley this morning.
Michael Lynch was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jennifer Johnson, on William Floyd Parkway at 2:25 a.m. Johnson, 32, of Center Moriches, was traveling south and struck Lynch, 49, of Shirley, just south of Sunrise Highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Johnson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
The Chevrolet was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
