Location: Dillingham
Case number: 09-86883
Type: MVC-I, Stolen Vehicle
Text: On 09/23/09, at approximately 2103 hrs., Dillingham State Troopers
received a report of a single vehicle, motor vehicle crash at Mile 9.9
of the Aleknagik Lake Rd., near Dillingham. Krystyn L. Gosuk, age 19,
of Togiak, was found at the crash scene. She had been apparently been
ejected from the vehicle and she was severely injured. Gosuk was
transported to Kanakanak Hospital, and subsequently evacuated to the
Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. Investigation at the scene
revealed that the crashed vehicle, a mini-van, traveled off the roadway
while attempting to negotiate a sharp curve. The van traveled into the
ditch and rolled multiple times. The van impacted and demolished a
power box on the side of the road, disrupting electrical and telephone
service in the area, before in impacted a thick tree and finally came to
a stop. The van was severely damaged and is total loss. Gosuk was not
wearing seat belt and alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the
crash.
Shortly after the crash was reported, the mini-van was reported stolen.
Earlier that evening the mini-van had been parked in the lot outside a
restaurant in Dillingham. A set of keys had been left in the vehicle
and the vehicle was not locked. Investigation so far indicates that the
van was stolen shortly before the crash occurred. The investigation is
continuing.
