310 Impaired Drivers Arrested so far in Riverside County AVOID campaign
Riverside, California – The Summer/Labor Day DUI crackdown on drinking drivers is starting its third weekend and has resulted in a number of DUI arrests from Checkpoints, Special Saturation Patrols, and routine patrols in the Riverside County “AVOID” DUI Campaign.
From 12:01 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2009, through midnight, Tuesday, September 1, 2009, officers representing 30 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 310 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and no fatal traffic collisions have been reported. (**NOTE: These numbers are only provisional with many agencies yet to report**)
DUI arrest data collection will continue through midnight Monday, September 7, 2009. Law enforcement officials will be conducting more anti-DUI efforts throughout the county. Additionally, all CHP Areas throughout the state have 80% of all available officers patrolling freeways and county roads throughout the weekend. 8 DUI Checkpoints and 15 coordinated DUI Saturation Patrols are scheduled countywide for Labor Day weekend.
“Driving impaired is simply not worth all the consequences.” said Riverside Police Department Supervisor Karen Haverkamp, AVOID the 30 Riverside County coordinator. “Violators often face jail time, the loss of their driver’s license, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, time away from work, and dozens of other expenses. So don’t take the chance. Remember, if you are caught over the limit, you will be placed under arrest.”
