Type: Death Investigation
Text:   On 8-30-09 at approximately 1054 hours Alaska State Troopers
responded to a residence on Klouda Circle for an agency assist.
Investigation revealed 67 year old Ross Prior of Wasilla was pronounced
deceased from natural causes at his residence.  Next of kin were
present.  There were no investigative signs of foul play and the remains
were released to the family.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 8-31-09 at approximately 1600 hours Alaska State Troopers
located and arrested Jason D. Poole, age 26, of Big Lake for an
outstanding warrant.  The warrant was for Probation Violation on the
original charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the
4th degree.  Poole was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial where he
was held on $5000.00 bail and a court approved third party.

Text:  On 8/31/09 at approximately 1700 hours, Alaska State Troopers
charged Brandon Haxton, 26 of Wasilla, with DWLR and Operating a Vehicle
without Insurance.  Haxton was contacted at Vine Road and Parks Highway
for a seatbelt and brake light violation.  He was issued a criminal
citation to appear in court at a later date.

Type: Burglary / Theft

Text: On 8-24-09 the VPSO in Chignik Bay received a report of a theft in
the village. Debbie Carlson, age 47 of Chignik Bay reported that someone
went into her house and took five bottles of whiskey. The value of the
whiskey was estimated at $250. Investigation into the theft continues.

Text: On 8-8-09 the VPSO in Chignik Bay received a report of a theft
from a watercraft. Wally Hinderer, age 66 of Chignik reported that
someone cut his skiff line and took the Boss Snap. Hinderer estimated
the snap’s value at $385. Investigation continues into the theft.

Text: On 8-26-09 the Alaska State Troopers in King Salmon received a
report of a suspicious fire in the Village of Chignik Lake.
Investigation revealed that the cabin belonging to Edwin Pedersen, age
24 of Chignik Lake had completely burned to the ground and had an
estimated value of $10,000. Investigation continues.

Type: Assault IV

Text: On 8/29/09 at 0335 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham
received a report of a domestic violence assault from St. George Island,
in the Pribilof Islands.  Do to poor weather conditions Troopers were
unable to respond until 8/30/09.  Subsequent investigation revealed that
30 year-old Todd Lestenkof of St. George Island had assaulted his 23
year old girlfriend.  Lestenkof was arrested and transported to
Dillingham pending arraignment on one count of Assault Fourth Degree.

Type: Search and Rescue

Text: On 8/29/09 at 1630 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham
were notified by 65 year-old Peter Etuckmelra that 18 year-old Ty Moore,
19 year-old John Etuckmelra and 20 year-old Shem Moore, all of
Manokotak, were overdue in their skiff.  The Alaska State Troopers
searched the Bristol Bay area.  The three men were located approximately
2100 hours walking along a river near Manokotak.  The men were rescued
and transported back to Manokotak.  The three subjects were in good
condition and they reported no injuries.

Type: Vehicle Theft

Text: On 8-12-09 the VPSO in Chignik Bay received a report of a stolen
four-wheeler. Richard Goben, age 41 of Seattle reported that someone had
taken his Honda four-wheeler during the night. Goben estimated the value
of the four-wheeler to be $1000. The four-wheeler was later located in a
creek behind the Trident Cannery and returned to Goben. Investigation
continues.

Text: On 8-27-09, at approximately 2030 hours, the McGrath VPSO observed
a white Yamaha motor cycle being operated in a reckless manner.
Investigation revealed the motor cycle was being operated by Sam Ivey,
age 25 of McGrath. Ivey was contacted and charges are being forwarded to
the Aniak Court for Reckless Driving and Speeding.

Text: On 08/30/2009, Jackie Brink (age 23 of Kasigluk) was arrested on
an outstanding $5000 arrest warrant. The arrest warrant was issued for
Brink by the Bethel 4th District Court for the Charges of Sexual Abuse
of a Minor in the 2nd degree. Brink was arrested without incident and

Text: On 08/30/2009, Alaska State Troopers in Bethel arrested Nick
Ayagalria (age 35 of Napakiak) on an outstanding $3000 arrest warrant.
The arrest warrant was issued for Ayagalria by the Bethel 4th District
Court for the Charges of (Felony) Driving Under the Influence, Driving
Without a Valid License, and (Felony) Refusal to Submit to a Chemical
Test. Ayagalria was arrested without incident and remanded to YKCC.

Text: On 08-29-09 at 1100 hours, Teddy Kyle Smith, 42 of Kiana, was
contacted by Alaska State Troopers in Kiana.  Smith was found to be on
felony parole for an assault III conviction and was in violation of the
travel conditions of his parole.  Smith was arrested for parole
violation and was subsequently transported to and remanded at the
Kotzebue Regional Jail.

Text: On 08-29-09 at 2248 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Kotzebue
received report of a domestic disturbance in the village of Selawik.
Investigation revealed Brandon Tom Sheldon, 24 of Selawik, physically
assaulted his girlfriend by punching, kneeing, and kicking her.  The
Selawik VPO attempted to take Sheldon into custody, however Sheldon
physically resisted arrest and was able to flee from the Officer.  AST
responded to Selawik and was unable to locate Sheldon.  AST is
requesting a warrant for Sheldon’s arrest.

Text: On 08-29-09 at 1242 hours, Harold Gooden III, 20 of Kiana, was
contacted by Alaska State Troopers at the request of the Adult Probation
Office.  Gooden III is on felony probation for a prior assault III
conviction and was found to have violated his conditions of probation by
consuming alcohol.  Gooden III was arrested for probation violation and
was subsequently transported to and remanded at the Kotzebue regional
Jail.

marker at the Church Hole in Iliuliuk Creek.  Arraignment is scheduled

Type: Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, Misconduct
Involving a Controlled Substance III, Misconduct Involving a Controlled
Substance VI and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI.

Text: On 8-28-09 at approximately 2254 hours, Southeast Alaska Cities
against Drugs task force in Sitka contacted James E. Barber-Bishop, age
27, of Sitka at the Sitka Airport.  Investigation revealed Barber-Bishop
was observed on the plane removing a bottle labeled as vitamins from his
backpack while seated next to a SEACAD investigator.  The SEACAD
investigator observed Barber-Bishop remove an Oxycontin tablet from the
vitamin bottle and consume it.  Barber-Bishop’s backpack along with the
vitamin bottle were seized and a search warrant was obtained to review
the contents of each item.  Further investigation revealed the vitamin
bottle to contain seventy-seven 80mg Oxycontin tablets and the backpack
contained eight 800mg Metaxalone tablets, approximately 2 partial
tablets of Suboxone, a small amount of heroin and half a gram of
Hashish.  The total street value of the narcotics is estimated to be
$16,000.  Barber-Bishop was arrested the next day and is being held on a
$50,000 cash only bail at the Sitka Jail.

SEACAD is partially funded by a grant from the Bureau of Justice
Assistance, United States Justice Department.  SEACAD is comprised of
members of the Sitka Police Department, Petersburg Police Department and
the Alaska State Troopers.

Text: On 8-30-09, AST received a report of a stabbing in Sutton.  There
was an altercation between Ryan Wilhour, 24, of Sutton, and a
27-year-old man.  Wilhour received a stab to the stomach and was taken
to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for medical attention.  The investigation is
ongoing.

Text:   On 8/30/09 at approximately 2358 hours the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of
Vine Rd. and Countrywood Dr. in Wasilla for a moving violation.  The
operator was identified as Justin D. Gobbell, age 32, of Wasilla.  A
passenger in the vehicle was identified as Joshua A. Wilkins, age 27, of
Wasilla.  Gobbell and Wilkins were both found to be impaired and in
possession of firearms.  Gobbell was arrested and remanded to the Mat-Su
Pretrial facility on the charges of DUI and Misconduct Involving Weapons
in the 4th Degree and held on a $1,500.00 bail.  Wilkins was arrested
and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility on the charge of Misconduct
Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree and held on a $1,000.00 bail.

Text: On 8-30-09 at 1704 hours the Alaska State Troopers Bureau of
Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a 1992 Mitsubishi SUV after
the driver identified as Kathleen Hohn (47 YOA of Sutton) was observed
not wearing a seatbelt.  Investigation revealed that Hohn was driving
while intoxicated.  Hohn also has a revoked license.  Further
investigation revealed that Hohn had a $250.00 warrant for her arrest,
original charge of larceny in Dillingham, AK.  Hohn was arrested and
booked into the Mat Su Pre Trial Facility with a bail of $5,000.00 plus
a court approved third party custodian.  The vehicle was released to a
license person on scene.

Text:  On 8/30/09 at approximately 2211 hours, the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of
the  Glenn Hwy and Old Glenn Hwy. for a moving violation.  The operator
was identified as Mark D. Hogman, age 23 of Anchorage.    Hogman was
found to be operating a motor vehicle when his operator’s license was
revoked.  Hogman was given a misdemeanor citation for driving while
license revoked and was issued citations for speeding, expired
registration and fail to show proof of insurance.  Hogman was given a
court date and released to a vaild driver.

Type: DUI / Endangering the Welfare of a Child x2 / Warrant Arrest
Text: On 8/30/2009 hrs at 1700 hrs, the AST Bureau of Highway Patrol,
Northern Region, stopped a red 1993 Toyota car for multiple violations.
Nichole Marie Millsaps, age 25 of Sutton, was identified as the driver
of the car.  Investigation revealed she was driving the car while
impaired by alcohol.  She had two children, age 2 and age 4, in the car.
Millsaps was arrested for DUI and two counts of Endangering the Welfare
of a Child 1st.  Millsaps passenger, Dustin Proctor, age 27 of
Chickaloon, was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Millsaps and Proctor were remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial.  Their bail was
set at $250 and $30,000, respectively.

Type: Felony DUI, MICS 6th Degree

Text: On 8/26/09 at approximately 1845 hours the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team stopped a vehicle near mile 82 of the Seward
Hwy. for a moving violation.  The operator was identified as Edwin
Swenson, age 57 of Cordova.  Swenson was found to be driving under the
influence and to be in possession of marijuana.  Swenson was arrested
for DUI and MICS 6th Degree.  A records check indicated Swenson has at
least two prior DUI convictions within the last 10 years making this DUI
a felony offense.  Swenson was transported to the Anchorage Jail and
held on $10,000 bail.

Text: At 2100 hours on 8-21-09 The Alaska State Troopers Bureau of
Highway Patrol Northern region stopped a vehicle for speeding near mile
35 of the Glenn Hwy.  Passenger Anthony Bundy, age 27 of Anchorage, was
found to have an oustanding warrant for fail to appear from a previous
DUI charge.  Bundy was arrested on the no bail warrant and remanded at
Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

Type: DWLS / Allowing an Unauthorized Person to Drive
Text: On 8/31/2009 at 2045 hrs, the AST Bureau of Highway Patrol,
Northern Region, stopped a blue 1997 Subaru for speeding.  The driver
was identified as Leonard Foss, age 24 of Anchorage.  Investigation
revealed his Oregon driver’s license was suspended.  Quenna Szafran, age
27 of Anchorage, was a passenger and the owner of the car.  It was found
that Szafran allowed Foss to drive the car knowing full well that his
driver’s license was suspended.  They were both issued misdemeanor
citations, Foss for Driving While License Revoked and Szafran for
Allowing an Unauthorized Person to Drive.

Text: On 8/31/2009 at 1634 hrs, the AST Bureau of Highway Patrol,
Northern Region, received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving
two motorcycles.  Investigation revealed Amanda Leah Miles, age 30 of
Chugiak, was driving her black 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on
the Glenn Highway when she lost control on loose gravel, causing her to
crash into the guardrail.  David Arnold Nelson, age 49 of Big Lake, was
driving his white 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle behind Miles.  When
Miles crashed, Nelson was forced to take evasive action and crashed
himself.  Both motorcycles were damaged, yet still drivable.  Miles was
injured and transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment.  She
was not wearing a helmet.  Nelson received minor injury and required no
medical attention.  Nelson was wearing a helmet.  Alcohol was not a
factor in the crash.

Text: On 8-31-09 at 1355 hours Court Service Officers were contacted by
Anchorage JS Customer Service in the Nesbett Courthouse, located at 825
W 4th Ave, about a female that was turning herself in on two felony
warrants.  The female was identified as, Tecorra Quiles, age 33 of
Anchorage.  An APSIN check showed that Quiles had two outstanding
warrants for her arrest, charging her with Theft in the Second Degree
and Forgery in the Second Degree.  Quiles was arrested and transported
to Anchorage Jail where she was remanded.  Bail was set at $5000.00 cash
only.
