BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a Hit and Run fatal crash last night in Ascension Parish just after 6:30 pm. The crash occurred on US 61 at the intersection with LA 621. A 2004 Dodge Pickup was traveling north on US 61, attempting to make a left turn onto LA 621, when it turned into the oncoming path of a 1999 Chevrolet Van. The van struck the pickup in intersection of LA 621 and the southbound lane of US 61. The driver and passenger of the pickup fled the scene immediately following the crash.

The driver of the van, Hipolito Chgoya (O/M, age 55) of Maurepas, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Two of his passengers, Josa Antonio (O/F, age 54) and Karla Martinez (O/F, age 21), both of Maurepas, were also injured in the crash and transported by Acadian Ambulance. The third passenger in the van, Domingue Perez (O/F, age 53) of Maurepas, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office.

Troopers investigated the crash and then located the driver of the pickup and his passenger in Gonzales a few hours later. Troopers arrested both Jose Tapia (O/M, age 21) of Prairieville and his passenger, Pablo Dalleso (O/M, age 20) of Prairieville. Tapia was charged with Failure to Yield on a Left Turn, 3 counts of Negligent Injuring, Negligent Homicide, Felony Hit and Run, and Unlawfully Operating a Vehicle in the United States. Dalleso was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Negligent Homicide and Accessory After the Fact to 3 counts of Negligent Injuring. Both are being held in the Ascension Parish jail on these charges and both are also being held for Immigration Violations.
