Ray Brook, NY – August 9, 2009
New York State Police in Ray Brook are conducting the investigation into the death of a 45 year old male at Raquette Lake in Hamilton County.
On August 8, 2009, at approximately 4:06 PM, a 911 call was received regarding a possible drowning. Investigation revealed that BRIAN S. RAHRLE, 45 years old from Tully, New York, was operating a personal watercraft with his 13 year old son on Raquette Lake.
They were towing his 15 year old son on a tube when they tipped over approximately 140 feet from shore. The 13 year old got back on the craft and RAHRLE, who was wearing a life jacket, was clinging to the side as they headed back to shore when he became distressed.
RAHRLE yelled for his son to stop and his son alerted people on the shore that they needed help. Area campers responded to RAHRLE by boat and brought him to shore, but he was unresponsive. A Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy and member of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the call and initiated CPR. Attempts to revive RAHRLE were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced deceased by Hamilton County Coroner Ronald Ste-Marie.
RAHRLE was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville where an autopsy will be conducted. Cause of death is undetermined pending the results of the post mortem examination.
