A man wanted for shooting two people early Sunday morning in Knox County walked into the police department in Alpharetta, Georgia around 1:00 p.m. on Monday and gave himself up. Thirty-two year old Marvin Matthews is accused of shooting his estranged wife 34 year old Tiffanie Matthews and her boyfriend, 33 year old Sherman Hawkins in the bedroom of a house at 1623 Cathedral Lane around 6:00 a.m. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office will pick up Matthews as soon as the paperwork is completed, either late today or tomorrow. The KCSO has taken out three warrants against Matthews, which include two for Attempted First Degree Murder ($500,000 each) and one for Especially Aggravated Burglary ($100,000). Because there was an order of protection against Matthews by his estranged wife, Judge Bill Swann today ordered no bond for Matthews.
Matthews kicked in a door to the house and then the bedroom and began shooting at the victims with a hand gun. Tiffanie Matthews was hit in the abdomen and Hawkins in the hip and abdomen. They’re being treated at the University of Tennessee Hospital. Three children were also in the house at the time of the shooting, but were not injured. One called 911 for help.
Matthews has a criminal history of DUI in 2001 and resisting arrest in 2004. He also has two charges of vandalism pending from April and May of 2009 where he kicked in doors at the Cathedral Lane house and cut the tires on the car belonging to his estranged wife.
