Vehicle 1, a motorcycle, was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the left lane. Vehicle 2, a pick up truck, was traveling west on Interstate 10 behind vehicle 1. For reasons still under investigation, vehicle 1 drove left across the shoulder and struck a guardrail. Vehicle 1 was laid over on its side, sliding west on the shoulder and the rider of the motorcycle was thrown into the inside lane of Interstate 10. Vehicle 2 drove over the rider in the inside lane of Interstate 10.
