SAVANNAH, GA (July 3, 2009): Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have identified yesterday’s homicide victim on Hutchinson Island.

Just after 3:30 yesterday the body of 21-year-old Necco McCrawl was found on a dirt road on Hutchinson Island. Mr. McCrawl was a soldier stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. Metro Police Homicide Detectives and Forensic Technicians responded to the scene and remained at the scene for several hours while processing the scene for evidence.

Quickly into the investigation it was determined Mr. McCrawl’s vehicle and 1-year-old child were missing. Metro Police quickly began working with local law enforcement to search for the child and vehicle. Almost immediately, the child was found near the intersection of Heidt Avenue at Old Louisville Road in Garden City. The child was not harmed and was taken into police custody before being turned over to its mother.

At this time police are still searching for the victim’s vehicle.
The victim’s vehicle is a dark blue 2002 Cadillac Deville with a large scratch along the driver’s side. The vehicle also has an unknown Georgia plate and a military decal displayed on the front windshield. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to 911 immediately.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and that the victim and suspect(s) knew one another. Police do not believe this was a random carjacking.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact Homicide Detectives at 912-651-6728 or Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) and in the body type “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash award.
