San Diego, California – Death Investigation

On July 3, 2009, at about 7:00 a.m. deputies from the San Diego Central Jail conducted a security check within one of their modules and found an inmate that had hung himself in his jail cell. Deputies entered the cell and attempted lifesaving measures along with medical staff.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the jail and assisted with the emergency medical response. Soon thereafter, the inmate was pronounced deceased. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department and the Medical Examiner’s office responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The inmates name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The cause and manner of death is pending autopsy by doctors from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
