Escondido, California – Arrest of Attempted Burglary & Carjacking suspect

San Marcos deputies responded to 921 Scandia Court in regards to a burglary in progress (Hot Prowl). Prior to the deputies arrival the suspect, later identified as David Michael Smith (DOB 08/18/1986), walked around the residence and attempted to enter the residence by checking for an open door.

There were none. Smith walked to a white vehicle which was still parked in the cul-de-sac. When deputies arrived they contacted Smith and through their investigation of the attempted burglary, they discovered that the vehicle Smith was sitting in was carjacked from the City of Escondido.

The carjacking took place at 1253 Valley Parkway at about 3:10 A. M. Escondido Police Department will be conducting the investigation of the carjacking.

Smith was subsequently arrested for attempted burglary and carjacking and transported to San Marcos Station for processing. After being processed Smith will be transported to Vista Detention Facility where he will be charged and booked for attempted burglary and carjacking.
