Cordes Lakes Narcotics Investigation Results in Arrest for Weapons Violation and Theft of Credit Cards
On June 26, 2009, 8:45 A.M., Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an anonymous report of narcotics activity at a home in the 20700 block of Marble Canyon Way, Cordes Lakes.
Upon arrival, deputies detained 20-year-old Spring Valley resident Bradley Grantham, who was about to enter a white Buick sedan. While speaking with Grantham, deputies saw a black handgun wedged between the seats of the vehicle. Deputies determined the weapon was loaded and that Grantham was on probation with a prior felony conviction. As a result, Grantham’s possession of a firearm made him a prohibited possessor and he was placed under arrest. Although he initially resisted, deputies were able to handcuff him without injury.
During a check of Grantham’s vehicle prior to tow away, deputies located credits cards and a sheet of bank checks, none of which were in Grantham’s name. The find also included a piece of paper with a PIN and credit card confirmation number on it. Deputies also found a digital camera, coins and jewelry contained in a black beanie hat kept in the car. Grantham admitted these items belonged to his friend’s parents and although he denied taking them, he was unable to explain how they ended up in his car. This friend, who had been watching the house for the homeowner, had invited Grantham and other friends to the home a few days prior.
Through further investigation, deputies discovered the property found in Grantham’s car belonged to a family in Spring Valley. The victim and homeowner stated that at least one of the credit cards had been used fraudulently for internet purchases and a liquor purchase in Spring Valley. The victim told deputies she had a friend housesit for her the previous week and suspected the thefts occurred during the time she was gone.
Deputies located the person who had been watching the victim’s house and she admitted allowing Grantham and others to visit during her 3 day stay. She claimed no knowledge of the thefts. The investigation is ongoing regarding the initial drug allegations and theft of property.
Grantham was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on several charges including Felon in Possession of Firearm, Resist Arrest, Take Control of Credit Card from Another and Theft of Property.
