Hoopa, California – Attempted Murder

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an attempted murder that occurred late last night in Hoopa. At about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Deputies were call to a residence on Masten Flat (off of Pine Creek road) when a woman was discovered lying in the yard. She had been shot one time in the face. The victim, 21-year-old Kodi Elainna Downs (who also spells her first name Cotie), was alert and able to speak with law enforcement officers prior to being transported to an area hospital. Downs said she was walking to a friend’s house on Masten Flat when a truck pulled up. She reported hearing a woman’s voice from the passenger side of the truck and then she was shot. Downs has been moved to an out of the area hospital where she is in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Office is looking for a tan or brown 1998-2002, 4-door Chevy pickup truck. Anyone with any information regarding this case or this vehicle should call Sgt. Wayne Hanson at (707) 268-3639.
