Booze It And Lose It: Operation Firecracker
June 29, 2009
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department today announced its officers will be out in force during the Fourth of July holiday period, cracking down on impaired drivers during the “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted throughout the campaign which begins today, June 29, and runs through July 5.
During the holidays many individuals will consume alcoholic beverages and then attempt to operate a motor vehicle. CMPD wants the motoring public to know that we will be doing our job to keep the roads safe for them by targeting those who drive impaired.
In 2008, there were 377 alcohol-related crashes that resulted in 12 fatalities in North Carolina during the week of the July 4th.
By following these easy steps, a driver can enjoy a safe and festive holiday without jeopardizing his or her life and the lives of others who may be on the road.
* Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;
* Before drinking, designate a sober driver and give your keys to that person;
* If you become impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to be sure you get home safely;
* If you see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hestitate to contact your local law enforcmement agency or call 911..
