Earlier this morning, two people from Pitkin, LA were killed in a vehicle crash.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 463 around the Pitkin area.  The crash involved a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Rebecca L. Johnson (W/F 46 yrs) of Pitkin, LA and a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Joseph L. Musselwhite (W/M 31 yrs) of Pitkin, LA.  The Chevrolet was south bound on LA Hwy 463 when it crossed the centerline and collided with the Ford, which was north bound.  After this initial collision, the Ford exited the roadway, collided with two trees, overturned, and became engulfed in flames.  The driver and one passenger of the Ford were trapped inside the vehicle.

Johnson was wearing her seatbelt and received minor injuries.  She was transported to Byrd Hospital for treatment.

Musselwhite and one of his passengers, identified as Lucinda R. Williamson (27 yrs) of Pitkin, LA, were pronounced dead.  Jennifer Perkins of Pitkin, LA and two juveniles were also in Musselwhite’s vehicle at the time of the crash.  All three received moderate injuries with two transported to Cabrini Hospital and one transported to Rapides General Hospital.  Musselwhite and all of his passengers were not wearing seatbelts or in child restraints.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 36 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 44 fatalities.  Twenty-one of the 30 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants.  Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle.
