Roswell—The last of the free Concealed Carry Courses will be offered on Saturday and Sunday in Roswell. Many students were notified that their license was suspended or their application was denied due to insufficient training by two instructors in southern and eastern New Mexico. The Department of Public Safety has offered several free courses to those who attended and paid for the inadequate training.
The NM Concealed Handgun Carry Act requires a firearms training course not less than 15 hours and demonstration of a student’s ability to safely use a handgun. If a student has received notification that their concealed carry license has been temporarily suspended or application has been denied due to insufficient training, they will be afforded one final opportunity to attend a concealed handgun carry course free of charge.
Police officers with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety will provide this approved concealed carry course. Participants must supply their own handgun/s, ammunition, and eye and ear protection. The category/caliber handgun(s) student shoot on the shooting range in class will be recorded on the back of the license. If the category/caliber or mailing address differs from the information previously submitted, students must surrender their license at the end of class. A new license will be issued reflecting the appropriate changes. Handguns and/or ammunition ARE NOT permitted in classrooms. The training will be held at:
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell 52 University Blvd., Occupational Training Center, Room #124 Saturday and Sunday – June 27, 28 – 9:00 AM
If you plan to attend you must register by calling the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, Special Investigations Division at (505) 841-8053 or confirm attendance with Sergeant Suzanne Skasik Suzanne.skasik@state.nm.us , Lieutenant Pat Mooney patrick.mooney@state.nm.us or Director Herman Silva herman.silva@state.nm.us . Students who have suspended licenses or whose applications were denied may pay for a course from another approved instructor or attend
this free DPS class. Students must submit a Certificate of Successful Completion to NMDPS/CCU by July 31, 2009. Those who have completed the remedial training provided by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, licenses will be issued in the order classes were completed.
