On Saturday, May 02, 2009, at 2:41 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a man found unconscious near the shoreline on Fort Myers Beach. Deputies responded to 54 Avenue E and proceeded to the beach. They performed CPR in an effort to resuscitate the man, however, attempts were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the nature of the incident, a crime scene area was cordoned off and Homicide Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived to continue the investigation. The man has been identified as 36 year old (d-o-b 10-13-72) Jamie R. Manning of Jetersville, Virginia. An autopsy was performed and the cause of death confirmed the result of a gunshot wound.

Anyone who may have seen Mr. Manning last Friday night or has information related to this violent felony crime is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000 or, to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). The man has been identified as 36 year old (d-o-b 10-13-72) Jamie R. Manning of Jetersville, Virginia. The death is considered suspicious at this time. Crime scene technicians collected a number of items from the vicinity, but they will need to be analyzed further to determine if they have any relation to the investigation.
