On May 4, 2009 at 12:56 AM, patrol officers from the Sand Creek Division responded to 716 Swope Avenue to a reported disturbance involving a gun. Upon arrival, uniformed officers found an adult male in the backyard of the residence. This male fled on foot when he was contacted by the officers. During the course of the chase, the officer fired a single shot that did not strike the male. The chase then continued, and ended with the suspect being caught and placed into custody at Swope Avenue and Willamette Street.

No injuries were reported by any officers or the male suspect.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes/Homicide Unit in conjunction with investigators from the Fourth Judicial District Attorneys Office are conducting the inquiry into the circumstances of the incident. As is the standard practice in these types of investigations, the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, and will not be identified at this time.

The name of the suspect and information about criminal charges is also being withheld pending further investigation, and no further details about the incident are available at this time.
