Troop C Announces Results of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T.
Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer Troop C, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the results of a recent enforcement detail “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team). The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.
Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. was conducted on Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Sunday, April 26, 2009 in Jefferson County. This eight-hour project was conducted by six officers, who focused their enforcement efforts on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations and impaired driving conditions, in an effort to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes. During the operation 71 arrests were made and 51 warnings were issued. Among the arrests were eight subjects for driving while intoxicated, 11 for drug violations, and six for misdemeanor criminal violations. Additional summonses issued included, 10 for speed violations, 14 for careless and imprudent driving, six for seat belt violations, and 15 for non-moving violations. During the operation a total of 54 vehicles were stopped for traffic violations.
Captain Johnson stated, “Too many lives are lost and devastated as a result of impaired and aggressive driving. Enforcement programs such as Operation A.R.R.E.S.T., will continue to target impaired and unsafe drivers. Please remember to always designate a sober driver, obey the speed limit, and make sure everyone is properly restrained in your vehicle.”
