Type: Arrest Warrant x 2
Text: On 2-27-2009 at approximately 0024 hours, Ketchikan AST conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle at approximately 10 mile of the N. Tongass
Hwy. for a moving violation. Subsequent investigation revealed that two
of the passengers of the vehicle had outstanding warrants for their
arrest. Anthony Stout, age 25 of Ketchikan, was arrested on a $5,000
warrant for failure to comply with conditions of probation, original
charge of Assault in the 3rd Degree. Anthony Mathews II, age 22 of
Ketchikan, was arrested on a $100 warrant for failure to appear for
order to show cause hearing, original charge of driving with no valid
operator license. Both Stout and Mathews II were remanded at the
Ketchikan Correctional Center without incident.

Type: Felony DUI/DWLR
Text: On 02-27-09, at approximately 1844 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Northway Drive. Upon
arrival, Troopers contacted Phillip L. Rominas, age 50 of Wasilla,
sitting in the driver’s seat. Investigation revealed that Romines was
driving while intoxicated and with a revoked license. Romines was
subsequently arrested for Felony DUI and DWLR and remanded to the Mat-Su
Pretrial Facility on $10,000 C/C bail and a court approve third party
custodian. His vehicle was impounded.

Type: Expected Home Death
Text: On 2/28/09 at approximately 0015 hours, State Troopers received a
report of an expected in home death at the Michael’s Assisted Living
Center in Palmer. Investigation revealed that Bill M. Mikell, age 67 of
Palmer, died of natural causes. No foul play is expected. Next of Kin
was notified. The body was released to Alaska Heritage Funeral Home.

Type: Disorderly Conduct / Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree
Text: On 02/28/2009 at approximately 0130 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to an address off of Hallie Drive Wasilla in reference to a
disturbance. Troopers contacted Cal A. Smith, age 42 of Wasilla, at his
residence. Investigation revealed that C. Smith was involved in a verbal
altercation with a taxi driver over cab fare and that C. Smith became
angry and punched the windshield of the vehicle causing it to crack. C.
Smith became increasingly aggressive and belligerent with Troopers and
was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to Mat-Su
Pre-Trial were he was held on $350.00 C/C Bail

Type: Search and Rescue
Text: On 2-27-09 at approximately 1725 hours, Troopers were notified of
a male that had overdosed on prescription medication in a remote cabin
approximately nine air miles North of Talkeetna. The victim was
identified as John Durr, age 50 of Talkeetna. Troopers launched Helo-1
with a Trooper on board to locate Durr. At approximately 1930 hours,
Durr was located and transported to Talkeetna. Mat-Su Borough EMS
transported Durr via ambulance to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

Text: On 2-28-09 at approximately 0618 hours, Alaska State Troopers
contacted Jeffrey W. Martin, 41 of Wasilla, while investigating a report
of a person slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Seldon Road
at Jasper Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Martin had been
operating his vehicle under the influence and impaired by alcohol.
Martin was arrested for DUI and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he
was remanded into custody on $1,000.00 bail.

Type: Minor Consuming Alcohol
Text: On 2/28/09 at approximately 0700 hours, State Troopers received a
report of a disturbance on Meadow Lakes Loop. Investigation revealed
that Shaun A. Slater, age 20, of Fairbanks, Leanna M. Slater, age 18, of
Fairbanks, and Regina G. Seeley, age 18, of Fairbanks had consumed
alcohol. All three were issued summons to appear in court for the
charges of Minor Consuming Alcohol.

Type: MVC-I
Text: On 02/28/2009 at approximately 1041 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a
pedestrian at mile 50 of the Parks Highway in Wasilla. Investigation
revealed Joshua Paul, age 20, of Wasilla, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus
westbound on the Parks Highway. Robert Sledge, age 49, of Wasilla, was
walking northbound on the north side of the Parks Highway. Paul lost
control of his vehicle and went off the north side of the road where he
collided into Sledge. Sledge suffered non-life threatening injuries and
was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by EMS. Paul and his
passenger reported wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Damage to
Paul’s vehicle is estimated to be $2,000.00. Paul was cited for Basic
Speed.

Text: On 2/28/09 at about 1030 hours, Gambell VPOs reported Brad
Apassingok, age 18 of Gambell, was in custody for assaulting a 15 year
old female and consuming alcohol. Charges for Assault IV and Minor
Consuming Alcohol were filed and Apassingok was telephonically
arraigned.

Location: Noorvik
Case number: 09-16485
Type: Overdue Snow machiner
Text: On 2-27-09 at approximately 1905 hours, Kotzebue Troopers received
a report that James Beylund, 33, and Allen Ticket Jr, 31, both of
Selawik departed Selawik and were traveling to Noorvik on snow machines
during blizzard conditions. Beylund and Ticket eventually got separated
and Beylund was able to communicate with residents of Noorvik by using a
VHF radio indicating he was approximately 12 miles from Noorvik.
Against the advice of Troopers, volunteers from the Selawik search and
rescue team searched for Beylund and Ticket during the blizzard
conditions. As a result, one searcher got separated from the other team
members. Ticket and the missing searcher were later found near Selawik
with no injuries reported. On 2-28-09, once weather had improved, State
Troopers contacted the RCC in Anchorage who dispatched the Civil Air
Patrol. At approximately 1050 hours, members from the Noorvik search
and rescue team found Beyland approximately 12 miles from Noorvik in the
vicinity of Hotham Peak. Beylund was subsequently transported to
Noorvik medical clinic where he was treated for mild hypothermia.
In 2008, Beylund was the victim of a four day search and rescue
operation when he traveled during blizzard/white out conditions.
Beylund was found in the same general vicinity of Hotham Peak and
treated for mild hypothermia.
State Troopers are asking members of the public to exercise good
judgment when making travel arrangements and are encouraged not to
travel in blizzard/white out conditions regardless of special equipment
they might have. As always, please file a travel plan with family and
friends before departing and make sure to have the appropriate equipment
for travel in inclement weather conditions.

Type: Burglary in the First Degree
Text: On 2-28-09, at approximately 1340 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report of a burglary that had occurred in October of
2008. Over $7000.00 of household goods were taken from a residence in
Nikolai. Investigation is continuing, anyone with information about this
crime is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers in McGrath at
907-524-3052.

Text: On 2/28/09 at 0200 hours, the Levelock VPSO reported the death
of 32 year old Levelock resident Mary Ann Washington. The State Medical
Examiner’s Office and next of kin were notified. Investigation is
on-going and an autopsy will be performed. No other details are
available for release at this time.

Type: Criminal Mischief 4th Degree / Domestic Violence
Text: On 2-28-09 at approximately 0138 hours 29 year old Mark Barnette
of Kodiak called 911 to report a man had threatened him with a gun near
a Mission Road apartment building. AST and Kodiak Police responded to
the scene and found Barnette outside of the building in a highly
intoxicated state. He refused to make any statements to AST. Witnesses
at the scene reported Barnette was attempting to break into one of the
apartments where his wife and mother-in-law were staying. The door was
damaged as a result of Barnette’s actions. The damage is estimated at
$200.00. Barnette was arrested for Criminal Mischief 4th Degree /
Domestic Violence. He was remanded to the Kodiak Jail and held without
bail pending an arraignment.

Anchorage, Paul Frary age 19 of Soldotna and Michelle Stranbo age 19 of
Kenai at the residence.
Investigation indicated that parties listed above were consuming alcohol
under the age of 21 and were issued summons and released.

Text: On 2-27-09, at approximately 2127 hours, a Trooper from Girdwood
initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 73mph in a posted
55mph zone near mile 106 of the Seward Highway in the safety corridor.
An Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Joshua L. Ellis,
age 27 of Anchorage, was operating with a revoked driver’s license.
Ellis was arrested for DWLR and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Bail
was set at $500 cash / corporate. Ellis was also issued a traffic
citation for speeding and no proof of Insurance. The vehicle was
released to a licensed driver.

Type: Commercial Fish Closed Area
Text: On 01/27/09, Daniel Peavey 46 yoa of Thorne Bay, contacted the
Alaska Wildlife Troopers and reported that he had unknowingly commercial
fished for Demersal Shelf Rockfish in a closed area. Investigation
revealed that Peavey had taken Demersal Shelf Rockfish on 01/26/09 in
the Central Southeast Outside (CSEO) district when the area was
designated closed by a December 18, 2008 New Release announcement from
the Alaska Department of Fish Game. Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued
Peavey a Summons for Commercial Fishing in a closed area. Arraignment
was set for Craig District Court. On 2/18/09, Peavey Pled Guilty to
Commercial Fishing for Demersal Shelf Rockfish in a closed area. Peavey
was fined: $1500.00 with $1000.00 suspended, 1 year probation, and
Forfeit the 1,914 pounds of product, valued at $2,137.25, that was taken
in violation.

Text: On 2/27/09 at approximately 2352 hours, the AST Bureau of
Highway Patrol, South Central Team, stopped a vehicle near mile 44 of
the Parks Highway, in Wasilla for an equipment violation. Investigation

Type: Motor vehicle rollover
Text: On 2/28/09 at approximately 0518 hours the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team responded to a report of a motor vehicle
rollover, on the Glenn Highway at mi 39. Investigation revealed CHERYL
MARTINS, age 32 of Anchorage, failed to negotiate a straight away and
rolled her 2004 Dodge pickup truck in the ditch. MARTINS and her
passengers all reported wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was an
apparent factor in the incident.
