Case number: 09-8562
Type: MVC-I
Text: On 1/30/2009 at 1924 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to
a two motor vehicle crash at 4.2 mile Craig Klawock Hwy with injuries.
Investigation reveled that a 1996 Honda Passport driven by Lawrence D.
Joseph Jr, 33 of Klawock was traveling north when he lost control of the
vehicle. The Honda was struck by a 1995 Subaru driven by Cynthia L.
Wornstaff, 55 of Craig when it crossed into her lane of travel. Both
driver’s were taken to Alicia Roberts Medical Clinic for injuries. Both
driver’s were wearing seat belts and their vehicles were a total loss.
Joseph was issued two citations for Negligent Driving and No Proof of
Insurance. Speed and poor weather conditions were the cause of the
crash.

Type: Grand Jury Indictment, Warrant Arrest, Sexual Abuse of a Minor

Text: On 1-30-09, a Juneau Grand Jury indicted George Jim Jr., age 49 of
Angoon on 15 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. On 2-1-09, at 1256
hours, AST arrested George Jim Jr in Angoon without incident. Jim was
transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau where he is
currently being held on $25,000.00 bail. The charges stemmed from
alleged Sexual Abuse that occurred in 1988 and 1989. In April of 2008
State Troopers at the Juneau post initiated the investigation.

Location: Ketchikan

Case number: 09-8998

Type: Agency Assist

Text: On 2-1-2009 at approximately 1132 hours, the Alaska State Troopers
were contacted by the Ketchikan Police Department who requested
assistance in locating a vehicle driven by, Antonio Prescott age 30, of
Ketchikan. KPD stated Prescott had committed a felony assault and eluded
them. At approximately 1508 hours, AST located Prescott at approximately
12.4 mile S. Tongass Hwy. Investigation reveled Prescott had driven his
vehicle off the roadway and sustained minor injuries.

Location: Ketchikan

Type: SAR

Text: On 02/01/09 at approximately 1132 hours, the Alaska State Troopers
in Ketchikan were contacted by the United States Coast Guard in Juneau
who reported an overdue aircraft.  Investigation revealed that an Era
Helicopter flown by, Daniel Adams, age 48, of Anchorage, had to make an
unscheduled landing near Yes Bay Lodge outside of Ketchikan on 01/31/09
due to bad weather and low visibility. On 02/01/09 Era Helicopters
attempted to contact the pilot by satellite phone and radio but were not
successful.  Era Helicopters contacted the USCG who later contacted the
Alaska State Troopers.  Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Ketchikan
responded to the area by the P/V Compliance to patrol the shoreline. The
USCG deployed a Helicopter out of Sitka to conduct an aerial search of
the area.  Alaska Airlines attempted to contact the pilot by radio while
flying in the area.

On 02/01/09 at approximately 1311 hours, the USCG in Juneau contacted
AST and reported that the pilot Daniel Adams contacted his employer and
reported that he was fine and not injured but needed assistance due to a
dead battery in the Helicopter.  Era Helicopters hired TEMSCO
Helicopters to provide assistance to their pilot.  D. Adams later
arrived in Ketchikan safely. 

Alaska State Troopers would like to thank USCG, TEMSCO Helicopters, and
Alaska Airlines for there assistance with the search.

Location: Wasilla
Case number: 09-8867
Type:  Motor Vehicle Collision
Text: On 01/31/09 at approximately 2100 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a motor vehicle collision on Fairview Loop Rd and Linlu Ln
in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed that Jim Nelson, age 37 of Wasilla,
was traveling south bound on Fairview Loop Road in a 2005 Chevy truck. 
Nelson lost control of his vehicle and impacted a 2003 Dodge truck
Traveling north bound, driven by Paul Adamson, age 70 of Wasilla.
Nelson’s vehicle came to rest on its side in the ditch.  There were no
reported injuries and damages for both vehicles estimated over $ 2,000. 
Nelson was issued a citation for failure to use due care to avoid a
collision.

Location: Palmer

Type: Death Investigation
Text: On 01-31-09 at approximately 1747 hours, Alaska State Troopers,
along with Palmer EMS, responded to an address in Palmer for a 911 open
line call.  

The victim, Robert Deb Bolinder, age 53 of Palmer, died unexpectedly. 
Bolinder had undergone minor exploratory lung surgery on Wednesday,
01-28-09 in Palmer after complaining of breathing difficulty experienced
earlier in the week.  Investigation of the scene revealed the victim
collapsed while he was on the phone with 911 seeking help. 

The Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and responded
to the scene for further investigation.  No foul play was found on scene
and none is suspected.  The body was released to family.

Case number:  09-8759
Type:  MVC-D

Text:  On 01/31/09, at approximately 1512 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a single Motor Vehicle Collision at Knik Goose
Bay Rd. and Hallie Rd. near Wasilla. Investigation revealed that 17 yoa,
Suzana M. Polushkin of Wasilla was driving a 2005 GMC pickup truck
eastbound when she lost control and ran off the road. The vehicle rolled
and came to a stop at the bottom of an  embankment. The vehicle
sustained approximately $3,500 worth of damage. Suzana was uninjured and
reported wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision.

Type:  Assault Third Degree X 2 / Assault in the Fourth Degree X 2

Text:  On 02/01/2009 at approximately 0021 hours, Troopers responded to
a reported assault on Pittman Road in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed
that William E. Bell, age 20 of Wasilla, had assaulted a family member. 
Bell was arrested and remanded into MSPT, where he was held without
bail.

Location: Palmer

Case number:  09-8834
Type:  MVC-D

Text:  On 01/31/2009, at approximately 1836 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of
Outer-Springer Road and Cope Industrial Way in Palmer. Investigation
revealed Dahlen Staskywicz, 17 years old, of Palmer was driving his
2003, Ford sedan, eastbound on Cope Industrial Way and was slowing down
to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Outer-Springer Road when
he lost control of his vehicle on the icy road. The vehicle slid into a
ditch striking the side of a power pole. There was no damage to the
power pole. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $8,000.00. Staskywicz
and his passenger reported wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured in
the collision. Staskywicz was issued a citation for Basic Speed and for
Failure to Show Proof of Insurance.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 02-01-09 at approximately 0516 hours, Alaska State Troopers
arrested Eric E. Hunter, age 24 of Wasilla, after he was contacted as a
passenger in a ‘02 Hyundai Sonata stopped for an equipment violation on
Limberlost Ave near Vine Road, Wasilla.  Investigation revealed Hunter
had two outstanding warrants for failure to remand to serve time on
original charge of DUI and failure to remand to serve time on a separate
charge of DUI/MICS VI.  Hunter was transported and remanded into Mat-Su
Pretrial facility on the two no-bail warrants.

Type:  Assault Fourth Degree

Text:  On 2-1-09 at approximately 0017 hours, Troopers responded to a
reported assault on Long Lake Road in Willow.  Investigation revealed
that Brenten Hoard, age 29 of Willow, had assaulted a family member. 
Hoard was arrested and remanded into MSPT, where he was held without
bail.

Type: MVC-D
Text: On 2-1-2009, at approximately 1353 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Knik Goose Bay Road
and Togo Woods Drive in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed that Geraldine
Morrow, age 78, of Wasilla, was operating a 2004 Toyota 4 Runner heading
west on Knik Goose Bay Road and had pulled over to the right shoulder to
let traffic go by before turning left into a driveway.  Julia Grimmett,
age 44, of Wasilla, and her passenger, were traveling west on Knik Goose
Bay Road behind Morrow in a 1995 Ford Bronco.  Morrow turned left from
the right shoulder of Knik Goose Bay Road and was struck by Grimmett’s
vehicle.  No injuries were reported. The damage to Grimmett’s vehicle
was estimated to be approximately $2000.00.  The damage to Morrow’s
vehicle was estimated to be approximately $2000.00.  The occupants of
both vehicles reported wearing their seatbelts at the time of the
collision.  Morrow was issued a citation for improper turning.

Location:  Big Lake

Case Number:  09-8943

Type:  MVC-I

Text: On 02/01/2009, at approximately 1356 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Big
Lake Road and Meadowood Drive in Big Lake.  Investigation revealed
Richard Kelly, age 23, of Wasilla, was traveling southbound on Big Lake
road in his 1990 Ford Tempo when he began to slow down so that he could
turn left onto Meadowood Drive.  Cyndi Torkelson, age 51, of Big Lake,
was traveling southbound behind Kelly in her 1994 Mercury Sable.
Torkelson did not observe Kelly making a turn in front of her and
attempted to avoid his vehicle by turning into the northbound lane;
Torkelson’s vehicle collided into the left side of Kelly’s vehicle as
Kelly began making his turn.  Torkelson and one of her passengers
sustained injuries during the collision and were transported to Mat-Su
Regional Medical Center by EMS.  Occupants of both vehicles reported
wearing seat belts.  Both vehicles are estimated to be a total loss.
Torkelson was cited for driver to exercise due care to avoid a
collision.

Location:  Big Lake

Case Number:  09-8948

Type:  MVC-I

Text: On 02/01/2009, at approximately 0937 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a single vehicle rollover at mile 1 Big Lake Road
in Big Lake.  Investigation revealed that Myrna Brooks, age 56, of Big
Lake, was driving her 2004 Ford Ranger northbound on Big Lake road when
her truck lost traction on the snow covered icy road.  Brooks’ Ford went
across the southbound lane and into the ditch causing it to roll onto
its side.  Brooks reported wearing her seat belt. Brooks sustained minor
injuries during the collision and was transported to Mat-Su Regional
Medical Center by EMS.  Damage is estimated to be over $5,000.00.

Case Number:  09-8949

Type:  MVC-D / Leave the Scene of Accident

Text:  On 02/01/2009, at approximately 1241 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a hit and run at the parking lot of an apartment
complex off of Cottle Loop in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed Samuel
Lofgren, age 21, of Wasilla, parked his 2001 Saturn SL in front of the
apartment complex.  At approximately 1235 hours, Lofgren observed an
older green 4-door Pontiac Grand Am collide into the right side of his
vehicle and immediately drive away.  Damage to the suspect vehicle
should be on the front right corner.  Lofgren’s Saturn sustained an
estimated $5,000.00 in damage.  This case is under investigation.

Text: On 2-1-09 at approximately 0150 hours, Delta AST stopped a black
Jeep Cherokee behind the Delta High School for a traffic violation.
Contact was made with the driver, Richard S. OROZCO, 22 of Delta Jct.
OROZCO was intoxicated and placed under arrest for DUI.  OROZCO was
incarcerated at the Delta Court Holding Facility.

Text:  On 1-28-09, Mat Su West Wildlife Troopers contacted Justin Bowman
18 yoa of Wasilla AK sport fishing through the ice on Big Lake.  Bowman
did not have a 2009 sport fish license.  Bowman was cited.  Bail is set
at $210.

Type:  MVC-Damage
Text:   On 1/30/09 at approximately 1637 hours, the AST Bureau of
Highway Patrol, South Central Team, responded  to mile 71.5 of the
Seward Highway for the report of a single vehicle collision. 
Investigation revealed Jason Daniels, age 29, of Soldotna, was traveling
southbound on the Seward Highway when he lost control of his 2009 Nissan
Titan pickup. Daniels crossed the opposite lane of travel on the icy
road, and collided with the guardrail on the northbound side of the
roadway.  Daniels’ vehicle had damages estimated at approximately
$10,000.00.  Daniels was wearing his safety belt and reported no
injuries.  Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
