Lordsburg—A failure to pay taxes alerted Motor Transportation Police to a truck belonging to Jahari Inc. During an inspection 3 large boxes of pot were discovered in a load of carrots.
Monroe Henry Harper III and Alicia M. Stevenson were arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Truck driver Harper (4/6/73) of Granada Hills, CA and passenger Stevenson (10/3/70) of Las Vegas, NV, were on their way from California to Maryland and New Jersey when they were stopped at the Lordsburg port of entry.
New Mexico tax records showed that Jahari Inc. had not paid their share of New Mexico road taxes. Inspectors found the boxes of illicit pot, weighing 177.5 pounds with an estimated street value of over $266,000, nestled in the legitimate load of carrots.
The truck was stopped around 8:30pm Monday, December 29th. The case has been turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation
