Text: On 12/19/2008 at 1947 hours, the Alaska State Troopers issued Jim
L. B. Farmer, 25 of Craig a summons to appear in court after the vehicle
he was operating was found to have marijuana in it. Farmer was stopped
by the Alaska State Troopers after his vehicle crossed the center line
causing an on coming vehicle to take evasive action so as not to be hit.

Type: Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V
Text: On 12/20/2008 at 1218 hours, the Alaska State Troopers arrested
Scott Allen Markwell, 49 of Craig for MICS V after he landed in
Ketchikan traveling from Craig on a float plane and was found to be in
possession of several bags of marijuana. K9 Yukon conducted a narcotics
sniff of his luggage and subsequently one ounce of marijuana and
approximately $5000.0 in cash was seized. Markwell was transported and
remanded to KCC.

Type: Natural Death Investigation
Text: On 12/21/08, at 0203 hours, Ketchikan AST received a report of an
expected home death in Gustavus. On 12/21/08, at 0117 hours, Frances
Awbrey, age 50 of Gustavus, was pronounced dead at her residence.
Awbrey had terminal cancer. The body was released to the Alaska
Memorial Park and Mortuary.

Text: REDDI Report – DUI
Type: On 12-21-08, at 1538, Juneau PD dispatched a REDDI report of a
possible drunk driver near the Nugget Mall in Juneau. At 1543 AST
conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for excessive speed. Cory A.
McDonald, age 34 of Juneau was arrested for DUI and booked at the Lemon
Creek Correctional Center. McDonald was also cited for basic speed and
no vehicle insurance. He was also on probation and not to consume
alcohol.

Type: Overdue Hiker
Text: On 12-21-08, at 1859, Juneau AST received a report of a possible
overdue hiker in the Haines area. The report stated that Chris Scanlon,
age 34 was overdue from a hike in the Rapinksi trail area. As AST was
preparing for a possible search, Scanlon was located in good condition.
No search and rescue funds were expended.

Type: Warrant Arrest of Army Deserter
Text: On 12-21-08, at about 1840, the US Customs as the US/Canadian
border in Haines reported that they had detained a deserter from the US
Army. The Haines AWT Trooper responded to the border and officially
arrested Pearl M. Rios, age 23 for military desertion on a no bond
felony warrant. Rios was transported to the Haines jail and will be
further transported to Juneau to await extradition.

Type: DUI, Minor Operating Consuming Alcohol (MOCA), Minor Consuming
Alcohol (MCA), Violation of Instructional Permit, Open container
Text: On 12-20-08, at approximately 0645 hours, Alaska State Troopers
conducted a traffic stop on a 1999 Ford Explorer on Palmer-Wasilla Hwy
and Trunk Road near Palmer, for erratic driving and an equipment
violation. Investigation revealed that Robert Watson, age 18 of Palmer,
was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Watson was
arrested for DUI, MOCA, MCA, and driving in violation of an
instructional permit. Watson was issued a citation for open container.
Watson was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial and is being held on a bail of
$1000.00.

Type: MVC-I, DUI-Alcohol
Text: On 12/20/2008, at approximately 1635 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the intersection of Trunk and Bogard Roads for a motor
vehicle collision, with injuries, involving two snowmachines.
Investigation revealed Jesse G. Rezendes, age 38, of Palmer was
operating his 1999, Polaris, RMK 700 snowmachine westbound on the
snowmachine trail along side of Bogard Road when he was struck by Joshua
Linde, age 18, of Wasilla. Linde was operating his Arctic Cat 800
snowmachine eastbound on the snowmachine trail along side of Bogard
Road. An investigation also revealed Rezendes was operating his
snowmachine under the influence of alcohol. Rezendes was subsequently
arrested and transported to Mat Su Pre-Trial where his bail was set at
$10,000.00.

Text: On 12-21-08 at aproximately 0530 hours Alaska State Troopers
recieved a report of a disturbance at a residence on Northern Lights
Street in Wasilla. At the scene State Troopers contacted Jeremy A.
Ewing, age 34 of Anchorage. Ewing was arrested for Disorderly Conduct
and additionally charged with Resisting Arrest. Ewing was transported
to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he was remanded into custody on $200.00 bail.

conducted a traffic stop on Wasilla Fish-hook near Aspen Road, in

vehicle was driven by Michael P. Mendoza, age 22, of Wasilla. An
investigation revealed Mendoza had an outstanding $250.00 warrant for
Failure to Appear on the Charge of No Insurance. Mendoza was
subsequently arrested and transported to Mat Su Pre-Trial where he was
remanded.

Text: On 12/20/08 at approximately 1145 Hrs, Soldotna based Alaska State
Troopers received a report of a deceased female on Ruth Lane in
Sterling. Members of Central Emergency Services and Troopers responded
to the scene. Investigation revealed that a 61 YOA female, of Sterling,
had died of natural causes and that no foul play was involved. Next of
kin was present on scene. Trooper investigation is closed.

Text: On 12/19/08, at 1130 hours, Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 6.5
of the Seward Highway for speeding. The driver was identified as Michael B
arth, 38 of Seward. A records check showed that Barth did not possess a va
lid driver’s license. Barth was given a summons to appear in court and rel
eased at the scene.

sport fish license when he did not meet Alaska residency requirements.

Patrol stopped a red Polaris snowmachine for driving down University
Avenue near Geist Road. The driver was identified as Joseph Walter
Shockley, age 29 of Fairbanks. Investigation revealed he was driving
the snowmachine while impaired by alcohol. Further investigation found
him to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested
for DUI and MICS 6th. Shockley was remanded at Fairbanks Correctional
Center. Bail was set at $2000.

Text: On 12/21/2008 at 0243 hrs, the AST Northern Bureau of Highway
Patrol stopped a vehicle traveling on University Avenue near Davis Road
for an equipment violation. Mikel S. Martinez, age 24 of Fairbanks, was
driving a late model Maroon Mitsubishi Eclipse. Investigation revealed
Martinez was operating the vehicle on a suspended operators license.
Further investigation revealed Martinez was also driving under the
influence of alcohol. Martinez was arrested for DUI and DWLS. Martinez
was transported and remanded to FCC for DUI and DWLS. Bail was set at
$2500.

Text: On 12/21/2008 at 0126 hrs, the AST Northern Bureau of Highway
Patrol stopped a vehicle traveling on University Avenue near Geist Road
for failing to maintain proper lane of travel. Aaron V. Lassman, age 32
of Anchorage, was driving a late model silver Toyota Rav4.
Investigation revealed Lassman was operating the vehicle under the
influence of alcohol. Lassman was arrested for DUI and transported to
Fairbanks AST. Lassman was transported and remanded to FCC for DUI.

Type: MVC-D, Causing Power Outage
Text: On 12/21/08 at approximately 0259 hours the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team responded to a motor vehicle collision near
the intersection of Seward Meridian Pkwy. and Bogard Rd. in Wasilla. A
Trooper traveling north on Seward Meridian Pkwy. observed a cloud of
snow that appeared to have been caused by a vehicle going into the ditch
followed by a bright flash. The Trooper arrived on scene a few seconds
later but the vehicle had already left the scene. The investigation
determined a vehicle slid into the ditch near the intersection, impacted
a street light pole, which in turn fell across a power line. This
caused a power outage effecting approximately 10,300 MEA customers. The
damage on scene and at a nearby MEA substation has been estimated to
exceed $10,000.00. The investigation continues. Anyone with
information is asked to contact State Troopers at 745-2131 or Crime
Stoppers at 745-2323.
