Beginning Friday, November 28th, the Fayetteville Police Department will begin their annual Holiday Operation Special. Efforts will be focused on major shopping areas throughout the City. The mission of the Holiday Operation Special is to reduce crime, reduce fear of crime, deter criminal activity and apprehend subjects committing crimes.
This year’s operation will be conducted by Special Project Units, utilizing an average of 23 additional officers daily. The Unit will use various methods such as bike patrols, park & walks, direct patrols, and other high visibility means to assist with their goal of providing a safe and successful holiday season.
Beginning Friday morning, a Mobile Command Unit will be set up in the parking lot of Cross Creek Mall. The mobile unit will serve as a Command Post throughout the operation for officers to report to. The location of the Unit will vary and may be adjusted as crime trends dictate.
In preparation for the operation, Supervisors worked with the police department’s Crime Analysts to determine the most effective use and placement for officers. This was accomplished by using data from previous years and forecasting potential hot spots. During the operation, Supervisors and Crime Analysts will continually monitor and review data so that target areas can be adjusted if needed.
The Holiday Operation Special will run throughout the Christmas Holiday’s and will conclude on December 31st, 2008.
