News Release for November 26, 2008
Officer takes Oath
Akron Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic gave the Oath of Office to a police recruit this afternoon at 2:00 PM in City Council Chambers.
Officer Michael V. DiSalvo was appointed to the Akron Police Department on January 07, 2008. He was then called to active military duty in Iraq. Officer DiSalvo received an Honorable Discharge from the service in October 2008.
Officer DiSalvo will be assigned to the Uniform Sub-Division, Patrol Bureau Platoon #5, 12PM – 8PM. He will start his new assignment patrolling the neighborhoods of Akron, on November 27, 2008.

Major Incidents Reported for November 26, 2008
“Gun Violence Reduction Sweep”
Officers from the Akron Police Department, the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, The US Marshal’s Office Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives worked in a combined effort to reduce criminal activity in the City of Akron last night. As a result of the operation 16 individuals were arrested on a total of 29 charges. Of those charges 7 were misdemeanor arrests, 7 were traffic arrests, one was a juvenile misdemeanor arrest, and 14 were warranted arrests. The detail also issued 10 traffic citations. The detail also seized 65 grams of marijuana. The detail focused predominately in the south and west sides of Akron.
Robbery:
Employees at Check into Cash located at 1940 Buchholzer Blvd reported being robbed last night. The employees reported that a white male walked into the store a little after 7:00 PM and demanded money. The male had a hand in his pocket as if he had a gun. The male fled the store with an unreported amount of cash.
The suspect is a white male, 28 – 32 years old. He was between 5’09” – 6’0” tall and weighed between 170 – 180 lbs. He has blonde or strawberry blonde hair. He was wearing a tan coat, gray hooded sweatshirt, and tan pants. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Felony reports for November 26, 2008
David Thomas, 45, 856 Cole Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Domestic Violence and Domestic Violence Menacing. David has two prior conviction for domestic violence from 12-15-97 and 11-21-01.
Susan J Spear, 51, 666 Brittain Rd., Akron, Ohio was charged with Felony Driving under the Influence. Susan has 5 prior convictions for driving under the influence.
Linda S. Hollis, 31, 552 East Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Robbery and Domestic Violence. Linda assaulted the victim while taking the victim’s tv and change container with cash.
James M. Smith, 18, 3210 E. 5th Ave., Columbus, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property. James was stopped at E. Wilbeth and S. Main driving a stolen vehicle.
Aaron S. McCormick, 18, 1180 Rentar Ln., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property. Aaron was stopped by police with a stolen computer. A few hours later Akron U Police found Aaron looking in windows of vehicles at the parking garage at College/Buchtel. He had a flash drive around his neck that belonged to the computer that he had stolen earlier that APD had confiscated.
Gary L. Francis, 22, 1238 Sherman St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Criminal Tools and Obstructing Official Business. Gary passed officers and pulled up into the front yard of an unknown residence on Forbes. Officers went around to check to see what Gary was doing. Gary then led the officers on a vehicle chase. As officers were turning onto Hunt St. from Arlington they observed Gary running and the vehicle rolling down the street. Gary was apprehended and the vehicle rolled up into the front yard of 962 Hunt. A hammer was recovered in the vehicle.
Alexis Sinclair, 50, 91 S. Adolph Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Domestic Violence. Alexis has prior convictions for domestic violence.
Spencer D. Hackney, 21, Barberton, Ohio was charged with Participating in a Criminal Gang. Spencer is a known west side Gang member and did engage in a pattern of criminal gang activity by shooting into occupied structure of a rival Gang house.
